So, Howard tells Rockets he wants a 3rd superstar?

I'm not sure about this....And what are the chances of your lakers being healthy when all of your top players excluding Dwight are in their mid/late 30's

I think Dallas would be the stupid choice.

If I'm Dwight the Lakers would be my 3rd choice behind Houston and GSW

Why would Dallas be the stupid choice? Great owner, veteran team with a lot of young talent, lots of cap space.....

Houston and GSW are better win NOW teams, but that does not make Dallas a stupid choice.

The Heat are great for the league. They generate large TV audiences because you either love them or hate them, but either way you are invested.
They are great for the league if you don't have a 'team' you follow. Generally the belief that your team actually has a chance of winning it all is the best for a league. Are you going to be paying for tickets to watch the Bucks and Raptors play?

Nash is never injured, I don't think it'd be too far fetched to say last year was a fluke for him. Kobe will be Kobe, regardless of the achilles it's just hard for me to believe he won't come out with his absolute best. Pau was supposedly banged up too but he was still playing.

It's not a sure thing to me either way but last year was pretty bad in terms of injuries, I doubt they will be so unlucky again. I do believe the Lakers are better than Houston when healthy. Also, I was under the impression the GSW had to jump through a large amount of hoops to get Dwight. I feel like Golden State's more of a threat if they are in the runnin because of Mark Jackson, he won a series with a young team and went head up against the Spurs with David Lee hurt.

In theory, you are 100% right. The problem is, like Piss-tons said, parity is more or less impossible because superstars in the NBA have more impact by a long shot than in any other team sport.

At least now, the Bucks can get a good draw when other good teams come to visit.

And no. No way in hell I am watching a Bucks/ Raptors game. You would have to pay me.

Nash has had his share of minor injuries, but the training staff for the Suns' is widely considered to be among the best, if not the best in all of pro sports. I would be very surprised if Nash is able to give more than 1500 minutes next year.

Otherwise though, with Dwight and when healthy I agree that the Lakers underachieved horrendously. D'Antoni also didn't help matters by seemingly accentuating the roster's weaknesses with his style of play.

Houston with Dwight is much better than the Lakers......mainly because they are YOUNG.

Yes last year was problematic in terms of injuries......but to think that a team in their mid to late 30s is going to be healthy more often than not is wishful thinking. ESPECIALLY when those old guys have to play so many minutes.

The Lakers, until they get rid of the old guys, has no future. This team with Dwight won't even sniff the conference finals......and the contracts eliminate trades. There is no future until cap space is created for the Lakers.

Houston, Dallas, and GSW don't have that problem. Houston and Dallas are not locked in to an aging team with no bench help.

@tlance That may be true but Nash fracturing his leg was a freak accident.

True, I have been talking about the bench play for the past 2 years now. Mitch is not the best at signing free agents, which is why I can't say much to the haters who say the Lakers will be irrelevant, Mitch does nice trades but he isn't the best in the offseason. All we really got left as Lakers fans for next season is wishful thinking and hope, so I'm not sweating it too much.

Whoever signs this guy deserves everything they get. My wife and I have already discussed it and if the Lakers sign Dwight at the max deal, we're officially rooting against them. And I know we're not alone among Lakers fans.

You and those fans would be "fake fans"

So will Houston go after Rondo?

Dwights best chance is Houston. Imagine his endorsements in China!

As far as the injuries, if the key players are all another year older and are forced to play big minutes because the bench is weak, then you should expect for them to continue.

Same scenario the Celtics have had to deal with the last couple of seasons and they had more depth then the Lakers do IMO.

As far as Howard wanting another max type player, I wonder how much $$$ he offered to leave on the table to help the Rockets find a way to sign one.

I'll bet the answer is $0.0000

Not by much. Maybe a game or so.

That team will be another year older and slower, with guys coming off major injury. I highly doubt they'll be that much better than a young talented Houston team, or a Mavs team depending on who they sign.

Dwight can sign with the Lakers, and more or less be guaranteed to suck until salaries are off the books......or he can contend NOW with Houston or GSW. MAYBE contend with Dallas if they sign some other pieces.

Sorry, but signing Dwight doesn't fix the issues with this Lakers team that all but guarantees they either miss the playoffs or get swept in the first round. They STILL can't guard PGs, perimeter and transition defense is all but nonexistant, they have no bench, and they won't run offense through Dwight. They also have a crappy coach.

HOW is that a better team than an up and coming Houston squad? I don't think some of you watch basketball or actually see the obvious when it comes to this Lakers squad.......you see names on jerseys, and not how they mesh.

I would think it will be the Mavs or the Rockets. I think Dwight would feel at home on either team.

Not necessarily!! Personally, I'm at the point where I really don't care!! If Dwight wants to return and wants to buy in 100% to being a Laker and what that means, then I think that him re-signing would be great!!

However, if he doesn't want to buy in to that, or wants to have things the way they were in Orlando, then the Lakers should let him walk, take their lumps next season and then go into the summer of 2014 with only Nash under contract and as Mitch Kupchak says: "an enormous amount of financial flexibility"!!

Since this is Howard and he is being unreasonable, I would guess he is setting himself up to stay with the Lakers.
