For myself, that has always been the problem with that kind of salt/seasoning...It is SO difficult to control the flavor that you'd be better off smoking with hickory(if possible)...

I make my own, when there's room and I need more. Only thing I use it for is brining fowl, that I'm not going to smoke, and even then I use 1/8 smoked salt to 7/8's regular salt.

Edit: probably more like 1/12 smoked salt to 11/12's real salt.
