Granted, Smith is really only a platoon player, but he is a GOOD platoon player, and from everything I have heard, a solid clubhouse guy.

Did the Padres get enough for him? Maurer is a #6 starter / 6th inning guy. He is young and under full team control until 2019, though.

the padres are idiots if they use maurer as a starter. nobody think of him that way since he was moved to the pen and dominated.
