I can see your perspective, although once a player as been acquired, there are simply two choices that coaches have, waste the talent or give them their best chance to succeed. Not everyone learns in the same manner. Like that famous fly on a particular head of an elected official, some have to be made aware of their shortcomings, RGIII was one of these people. We all agree that Haskins is a knucklehead, I chalk that up to his youthfulness and hopefully you and I can agree that he, as it seems to be among a growing number of today's youth, just might benefit from life planting a well earned boot in his ass.Not saying you're wrong necessarily far as this organization not giving each the best opportunity to succeed. Not saying you're right either though. The reasons imo that neither succeeded with this organization ultimately falls on Griffin n Haskins themselves for their decision making. and in part on Daniel Snyder for involving himself in player personnel matters. I recently read an article where Haskins got the tag owners pet or some shit like that. Robert Griffin w/o question was tagged with such and lets address him first. Griffin point blank refused to protect himself. He made no effort to take advantage of the rules protecting QBs. The week he got hurt against Atl. It was dowwn on the Atl 3 yd ln. He went back to pass and he flowed out the pocket towards the right sidelines. He looked as if he didn't see any open WRs. But instead of throwing the ball away or running out of bounds. He haphazardly tried avoiding a tackle by cutting back into the field of play. I dunno if he lost his balance or was trying to get down, but as he was going down, LB Sean Witherspoon hit him concussing him and knocking him out the game. Cousins came in and finished the game. Now all that week there was talk about how he should've thrown the ball away or got out of bounds. Largely due to being on the Atl 3 yd ln and only having 13 yards of playing field to work with particularly since he was all the way over on one side of the field, shrinking the field that much more.
The next week against Minn with the Skins on their 24 yd ln. Griffin was back to pass, but pulls the ball down and takes off to his left. There was 1 Viking defender, a DB I believe that was between Griffin and the rest of the field, every other defender had flowed to Griffin's right. You don't see anyone, but Griffin n the Vikes DB on the tv screen for the rest of the play. Griffin could've cut back to his right towards the middle of the field, but instead he correctly continues to his left where he has at least 10, 15 yards before he goes out of bounds. He easily smokes the DB to the sideline and continues down the field for a 76 yd TD run. After the game during his post game press conference he steps to the mic and the first thing he says is something like this. Maybe I should've run out of bounds on that play huh. It was a dig at the talk a week earlier about him running out of bounds or getting rid of the ball as not to take a hit the week before in the Atl game. I couldn't believe it cuz it said to me that either Griffin doesn't understand situational football or he don't give a shit about it. Either way, not a good look. I realized then, Griffin probably won't be around long because he's gonna get injured. Sure enough, that's pretty much what happened when he drove head first which still allows def players to hit him and Haloti Ngata lit his ass up in the Baltimore game. He was never right the rest of the season after that. And that stemmed from Griffin's refusal to learn how to protect himself as he never learned to slide and continued to dive head first on running plays well into his 2nd year. That isn't or wasn't the organization's fault or Shanny's fault or Snyder's fault. That's all on Griffin. It is Snyder's fault that Griffin felt empowered enough to tell Mike Shanahan what plays he would no longer run and that he wanted to play QB like Peyton Manning. Like he thought he could simply say it and it would magically happen. So from my vantage point, even if the organization didn't give him the best opportunity for success. Had he taken advantage of being able to protect himself. He could've overcome the wrong move by the organization. What he couldn't overcome was his refusal to protect himself n Snyder's coddling did him no favors either.
Concerning Haskins. He simply refused to apply himself to becoming a better QB. Not only did he not apply himself, he continued to do things that displayed his immaturity. Trying to sneak folks into the Skins facility, partying w/o a mask, yet still he was given not a 2nd chance, but a 2nd n 3rd chance. And what did he ultimately do with his 3rd n final opportunity? He saved his worst performance of the year for it. So whatever the organization did as far as curtailing his chances for success. His off field actions and his on field play after being given multiple chances were much biggest factors in why he's where he's at now imo.
Far as grooming players go. Some players have developed nicely or so it seems in Washington. Curl, Holcomb, Reaves, Roullier, Iaonnidi until his injury to name a few. I will say they haven't had the best luck with QBs. But of the recent/semi-recent QBs that have been here. McNabb, Griffin, Cousins, Smith, Haskins, Allen. Daniel Snyder is responsible for bringing in McNabb, Griffin and Haskins. The only 3 that have played themselves out of Washington. Which says to me Snyder needs to keep his as out of the draft room, the FA room, and the and any other room that dir3ectly leads to Skins player personnel.
