So I'm seeing different things out there with regards to press man coverage. Obviously we DO use it, the debate comes down to is it enough. Seems the consensus view is 'no' so far.

Some pretty dramatic improvement so far on STs

Excerpt

According to the all-around metric used to Football Outsiders to measure special teams effectiveness, the Redskins have improved from 29th in the league last year to 13th this year.

As optimistic as I am about the possibility of an overall shift in team mentality...if we play an awful game against the Giants at home, its going to be meltdown city. Code Red game IMO. Even if they lose, they MUST show well and be competitive or I could easily see a lot of the progress we've seen unraveling.

Interesting if true...

Chris Cooley says Kirk Cousins has been told he’s not getting benched — www.washingtonpost.com — Readability

Excerpt

Sunday was a rare feat for Cousins, who was criticized both for turning the ball over too much (via an interception and a pair of fumbles) and for not being daring enough. It’s possible these things can both be true at the same time, but it’s still a tricky puzzle.

Here was ESPN 980’s Chris Cooley, though, reporting Monday evening that Cousins at least does not have his job at stake when he’s trying to rally his team.

“I think he played okay,” Cooley said of Cousins. “But I want my guy to step up and ball, as you’re down two touchdowns. I watched Carson Palmer [Sunday] night, and I said ‘he’s not afraid to throw a pick.’ And I don’t want Kirk to be afraid to throw a pick. Let’s get better by making a couple mistakes, especially when we’re down in games.

He’s not getting benched, by the way, and he’s been told that,” Cooley went on. “He’s been told he can throw five picks. He’s been told by this organization he can go throw five picks if he’s down in a game. I mean, you don’t want him to make stupid throws, but if he’s taking shots, that’s fine. I would like him to take shots. … I think it’s exactly what he says week in and week out: it’s about the process and it’s about reading the plays out. The thing is, the process ends once the play goes a little off-schedule. The process also ends once the game goes off-schedule. To me that changes the process. We’ve got to be open to change. We can’t be as regimented.”

Cooley said he believes Cousins was given this news about not being benched some time within the past couple weeks, and repeatedly said he wished Cousins had tried more aggressively to make something happen when Washington fell behind Carolina last weekend.

Jerry Brewer...

The good news for these Redskins is all the other bad news in the NFC East — www.washingtonpost.com — Readability

Excerpt

If you expect the final six games to provide greater clarity about this team, well, at least there’s no fee for expecting. It will cost you only time and energy. Washington is what it is: a franchise gradually emerging from years of ineptitude, a squad that has improved from awful to average. And its hopes of winning the division and making an improbable playoff berth are tied as much to the competition’s demerits as its own merits. If Washington makes the postseason, it will happen because the bar dropped so low that any NFL schmo could walk over it.

Yet there is value in trying to be the team that spills the least amount of food on its jersey. There is also no need to apologize for being given an opportunity. The weak NFC East provides Washington with meaningful games after Thanksgiving for the first time since 2012. The end of this season doesn’t have to be a string of glorified exhibitions to determine who gets fired and who lives to fear being fired a year later.
