Ball security (I'm looking at you Matt Jones) and some TOs from our defense are needed desperately. It also would be nice if Kirk could limit his INTs but at least there exists an expectation of this part of his game.

Through three games, the Redskins have given the ball away frequently on offense. And they’re not getting takeaways on the other side, either.

Washington is ranked 31st in the NFL with a minus-five turnover differential. The Redskins and Jaguars are the only two teams with just one takeaway, and they’re tied for the fifth most giveaways with six.

“I’m surprised we’ve won a game at minus-five,” Redskins Coach Jay Gruden said. “We’ve got to make sure we do a better job.”

Funniest part of this listen was the discussion of our recent (cursed?) performances on primetime:pound:

Excerpt

ASHBURN, Va. -- The cries came up the minute Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden used the word patience. On Friday, that’s what he wanted for quarterback Kirk Cousins. So why, wondered the Robert Griffin III supporters, was that word not used with him?

But there is no double standard. The decision to bench Griffin after two preseason games was not based on those games alone. To think that way is to ignore how this works and to go for the easy or lazy take.

When Gruden arrived in January 2014, Griffin was the No. 1 quarterback. He worked that way all spring, all summer and opened the season as the starter until getting hurt. He returned to the starting lineup for three more games, was benched and then played three more (starting two).

Then in February, he was anointed the starter -- about a month after the head coach said he wanted a competition. So Griffin spent the offseason and summer once more working with the starters. During this time, the coaches studied every throw he made, every rep he took, every decision he made and paid attention to what he did and didn’t know in meetings. Some (fans and some media) see a handful of plays in a game on TV; coaches see hundreds of plays over the course of months -- and then some. Teammates are there, too, and see the same. Sometimes, we might see a practice where a guy seems to have done well only to discover later that coaches saw it different after re-watching the practice (and knowing where a guy must go with the ball vs. those of us on the sidelines who typically won't know that).

And what the coaches saw over the course of nearly two years is why the decision was made. Not because Pierre Garcon dropped a pass in the preseason. Not because they didn’t realize Willie Smithwas starting at left tackle vs. Detroit in the preseason. It’s about aspects of his game that told them that he had not developed the way they needed and wanted. It was also about changes they saw in Cousins’ game; they have the ability to run more of their playbook with him (the third-down hurry-ups vs. St. Louis was a prime example).

Pretty sure the game we won, we won the turnover battle.

I hope so.

The under throwing is as big a concern as the picks IMO. These are throws Kirk is more than capable of making.

Hey Cali. My own belief about not enough TO's has SOME connection with a lack of pass rush. An opp passing attack is all base on timing and good pass rush interrupts it and we know what this leads to. just my thought.

Also have to actually GET the TO of course. Cully has dropped 2 i think and Keenan had an opportunity too IIRC. We've had some shots, just hasn't happened yet. The D has to be more opportunistic.

A good pass rush definitely helps the D get opportunities for some TOs. Just gotta execute. Losing Galette ( even tho he never played in a real game) definitely hurt us. He was the one player showing some legit speed off the snap.
