I am alright with this at a very low price. Despite his drops he has been more dependable than most of the guys we have on roster. I think some of you guys are in denial wrt how bad our WR corps has been (with the exception of Garcon).

I dont think its denial so much as a group psychosis know as the grass is greener syndrome. For years we have had the mentality as a group that finding some one better is as simple as plugging the next guy in. Sadly when you have been as bad as the Skins have been, its easy to start thinking that way. Its why you have people saying player X doesnt deserve to make (insert dollar amount) because player Y out performed him on some other team for less money. Moss is by no means a #1 or even a #2 WR at this point. But every team needs one or two older statesman who are good locker room guys, can still contribute on the field and exhibit a higher standard even when things are not going the greatest. I put Moss in the same class as a few other guys who should be afforded a chance to contribute, and go out as Redskins if they so choose. Too often we start thinking. well just bring in the next guy, he cant do any worse. And sadly, he usually does.

If he's not #1 or #2, then he needs to play STs. Did you see how bad our STs was last season?

It was as bad as Denver's was in the SB but on a weekly basis.

I have no problem with this if it is a very reasonable contract...reasonable being vet Min.......and he DOES need to CATCH the ball....Very frustrating wathcing those drops.....I hope that a young guy steps up and takes the job from him....then cutting him would be what should happen...Thing is.....Guy can still return punts!!! put him back there, he would be better then what we paraded out there last year!!!

As long as there's no guaranteed money or a signing bonus in excess of ten dollars then I'm all for it. Bring him to camp, let him give some tired legs a rest in camp, mentor a bit...........then cut him before camp breaks, what's the harm??

At his age, moss would be crazy to sign a camp deal with no guaranteed money. Supposed he breaks a leg in the preseason?? Most guys are going to want something just in case. And I highly doubt Moss is going to sign on to be a camp body at this stage.

I agree with you..... in fact, that was my point. If he's unwilling to sign a camp type deal he should not be resigned.

he will get some guaranteed money just because he is a long term redskin

but i doubt he needs a guarantee if he managed his money well

Its not about need, it is about respect to a degree. Moss has been a Redskin for a long time. You take care of your own and dont treat them like some pickup off the street. It would be an insult to what he has done for this team to offer him a base contract with no guaranteed money.

He deserves nothing. If we think he can play, fine...but he doesn't deserve to play.

I disagree. He has been a great Skin loyal through difficult times. We owe it to him to give him the chance to see if he can play one more year. What we don't owe to him is a guaranteed slot. He would understand this. If he makes the team, He gets some money. If he doesn't make the team, he gets a great send off at half-time in one of the games and spot of the ring of honor. We also owe it to him to make the decision rather quickly so he has a chance to catch on with another team if he so desires.

If, in fact, he is one of our best 5 or 6 WRs in camp, that tells you something about the talent level at WR for us. Moss's talent has degraded significantly. It would be a shame if we can't find better players than him.

Anybody feel like explaining what role he would play on this team?? K/P return?? If the explanation is that he can still contribute as a pass catcher.......don't bother, I already suspect and well versed in my realization that this is a statement from the team that there is not enough talent at the position to warrant his release.

i think they will bring him into camp and let him compete . he makes the team if the team doesnt address the position this off season and has to wait till next season

How about he makes the team because he would likely out perform any 3rd or later round WR we bring in in most cases. As many have stated we cant fix everything in one off season. So even if we brought in a Kenny Britt or the like, Moss would be more productive than a rookie. Unless we are of the mind set to just go young and roll with it. And I know a few people will call for that. But reality is likely that they want to bring Moss back because he can still produce, even if in a limited fashion.

Maybe you're right....sigh.....but I believe that what Mr. Allen has previously stated to be very true, and that is this team will be extremely active in FA. I now believe that his replacement has become a FA......Nate Burleson......2 years younger, 2 inches taller, veteran, and plays the slot.

I'm not sure it will be Burleson, but I agree that the skins will pick up a FA WR (or 2) and it will probably be the death knoll for Moss. There is a whole slew of FA WRs out there, many of which are now more productive than Moss. Of course, they will also be more expensive.

Thats always the rub. We want to improve and want instant gratification at a bargain price from guys that are younger. The reality is, the teams that become good and stable contenders do it gradually. They do end up holding onto a guy like Moss until such time as they already have his replacement in the fold in most cases. They end up paying to hold onto their own guys even when they are not All Pro because in the long run its better for the team than paying some one elses free agents and hoping THEY will perform better. People forget, the patriots basically sucked for Billichecks first 4 years. And Pats fans screamed that he held onto Marginal talent and in some cases guys that clearly wouldnt start any place else. But he slowly built his roster, kept his marginal young guys until they became exceptional slightly less young guys, then the Patriots became a dynasty for a while there.
