Lions looked good today, but probably the one thing I was most excited to see was how much weight Stafford appears to have lost. He looked skinny to start the game, I didn't really notice until they pointed it out, but it is very noticable. Then during the game he looked more athletic than he has in the past, with 2 passing TD's coming as direct results of him scrambling from pressure and an additional TD run. And with so many late game INT's and late game collapses last year, anything that helps us play better later in games is appreciated.

But even with all of that I don't think I really noticed how much weight he had lost until the interview at the end of the game. Stafford has always had a bit of a round face, but even his face looked like he lost a lot of weight. I'm guessing he had to drop at least 30 pounds to make that much of a difference in his face like that. That's a huge change let's hope it pays off all season.

I got to attend one of their open practice sessions this year and noticed it then. I wonder if a change in coaching has given him new found hope or if Caldwell helped get him on the right track? Either way, I think it can only help.

That's because the Giants ARE a junior varsity defense.

I actually thought the protection could have been a lot better, and the run blocking was brutally bad last night.

Yes but more important s how the Lions defense at times looked varsity.

His age has a lot to do w it. You hit 25, 26 years old and your man strength really starts kicking in. Also helps that he finally has an OC and a HC who don't make excuses for him. Schwartz always acted like Stafford was a flawless finished product, never agreeing with any criticism of him.

Caldwell and Lombardi came in and made it their mission to improve Stafford. At one point in the past I think Stafford bought into the Schwartz babying. Remember when he said he didn't need to work w a QB specialist? Stafford was just repeating what Schwartz and Lineham were telling him.

Now he's working w 2 coaches who have been honest with him, and it looks like he's receptive to their teachings.

FINALLY some coaches who actually coach players up. Forgot what that looked like.

The giants defense isnt bad, not sure where that idea came from. The lions offense is just that good.

I just watched his highlight clip again, and I'm still at a loss on how well he moved, and how easy it looked for him.

He's not fast, but if he can add that element of mobility to his game this year he could be scary-good. Hopefully we see this Stafford each and every week this year.

Week 1: Matthew Stafford highlights - NFL Videos

I dont want to be the asshole but apparently you don't watch Russell Wilson much. He does this multiple times a game every game.....And you shrug it off, Stafford does it and then it becomes impressive.

This type of play should be expected from NFL QBs not celebrated like a once in lifetime play.:noidea:

Interesting Stafford fact:

By the way, just to show you how weird Stafford's career really is: Monday was the first time since 2012 that the Lions won a game when Stafford DIDN'T throw an interception. The Lions had been 0-6 in games where Stafford didn't throw a pick. Usually, teams lose when their quarterback is throwing interceptions, the Lions were losing when Stafford wasn't throwing interceptions.

So when he throws a pic our chances increase? Odd.

Fuck Russell Wilson. This is impressive because it's in addition to his arm. Russell can't make half the throws Matthew does with that albeit accurate noodle arm.

But he's not talking about Russell Wilson bc he's not on our team. Wilson is already known as a nimble/mobile QB. Stafford isn't. That's what makes this past Monday encouraging. Geez dude, get off the Seahwaks nuts just once.
