We actually get compensation picks for losing Jenkins/McCloud?

Yep, correcto mondo Vita. An extra third and a fourth and our draft is looking really good. Two seconds, two thirds, and two fourths. Now if can just get Denver to take Keenum we'd have at the very least three seconds and possibly even two firsts and two seconds along with the rest.

Do we know for sure they are added to this years draft Retro?

TBT - I am clueless, it looks like the comp picks may be calculated for next year not this year.

If you haven't already, look at that chart from over the cap in my last post above.

It lists them under 2017'

It depends on the player, the salary, and the determination by the league. Presently, the third rounder we will receive for Jenkins will be activated in 2017. The fourth rounder for McCleod is activated for 2016.

Here is an article explaining the representation of the state of the picks right now.

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- The 2016 NFL draft order is officially set and the Los Angeles Rams will pick 15th in the first round and have the rights to three picks in the top 45.

This year's NFL draft is scheduled for April 28-30 in Chicago.

Keeping in mind that the first three rounds are set in stone and the final four rounds are subject to change after the NFL unveils the 32 compensatory picks in March, here's a breakdown of the Rams' selections in each round:

First round -- No. 15 overall

Second round -- No. 43 overall, No. 45 overall (acquired from thePhiladelphia Eagles in the Sam Bradford-Nick Foles trade).

Third round -- No. 76 overall

Fourth round -- No. 107 overall (subject to change after compensatory picks revealed)

Fifth round -- No selection (Used fifth-round choice on OT Isaiah Battle in last year's supplemental draft)

Sixth round -- No. 171 overall (subject to change after compensatory picks revealed)

Seventh round -- No selection (Traded pick to the Houston Texans in exchange for quarterback Case Keenum)

I understand the first sentence Retro, but whatever the reason that JJ's is comp'd in 2017 & McLeod's is comp'd in 2016 is beyond me.

i thought the comp picks were for the following draft because they had to determine FA's lost and FA's signed.

Not exactly ALR. It is a formula that only the NFL knows and will release to no one. At the present we have the potential to receive a fourth rounder in 2016 for McCleod but the third rounder for Jenkins won't be activated until 2017.

To call this system bizarre is putting it mildly. Goodell still has to have some power and this is one of those areas. The assigning of the compensatory picks which will be officially completed at the end of the March. I have posted our picks as they stand right now. That could change at the end of March.

And the way I understand it, they too still can get cancelled out if we sign a free agent of similar dollar contract, right?

Yes, if they consider the FA/FA's acquired as equal, they will cancel out.

Correcto mondo Vita and ALR. That is why Snisher are none-too-in-a-hurry to sign FAs. That being a major reason along with four bad lessons already learned with FAs coming in here and taking a boatload of cash and providing little return on investment, Snisher are really being very careful to secure those potential draft picks.

Like you stated, that third could be activated for 2016 if we don't sign FAs of equal value and position as well as salary. So, they are really focusing on signing our own guys and accumulating draft picks. We will know the full story at the end of March. I give Snisher kudos for Don Klostermann-like moves in the CBA era!

Do the Rams even have enough cap space left to cancel out these potential picks?

Depends on the term which I don't believe is calculated against the cancellation just the contract dollar amount.

The Basics and Methodology of Projecting the NFL’s Compensatory Draft Picks

When the salary cap era of the NFL began in 1993, many changes came to the league other than just the eponym of this era. One of those changes was the introduction of unrestricted free agency. Another was to reduce the number of rounds in the draft from twelve to seven. However, while there have been officially seven rounds ever since, in truth the total number of draft picks equate to eight rounds. This is due to advent of compensatory draft picks, a entire round’s worth of picks that are distributed among the ends of rounds 3 through 7 that are awarded to teams that lose certain Unrestricted Free Agents (known as Compensatory Free Agents) to other teams.

The formula used to award compensatory draft picks, developed by the NFL Management Council, has never been publicly revealed. However, in the years since 1994 outside observers have been able to determine much of how the formula works, and have created projections in an effort to demystify how compensatory picks work, a process that has confused many an NFL fan.

From 2001 to 2010, the person who has brought the most public awareness to how the compensatory draft pick formula works is someone known as AdamJT13. For nine of those ten years, he would annually write up a detailed projection of which picks he expected to be award to which teams. His contributions have been valuable to gain a better understanding of the compensatory formula. Unfortunately, when the CBA expired in 2011, Adam declined to give a projection for that year, and understandably so given that we had no idea whether the new CBA would even include compensatory picks. He has not offered a detailed projection since 2010, and has not posted at his blog since June of 2012.

The advent of OTC, however, with its excellent wealth of contract data, has provided a way to continue the projection of compensatory picks. Since 2015, our goal here is to attempt to carry on the excellent work that AdamJT13 has done, by citing his work to offer our own projections for future compensatory picks. Using OTC’s web interface, we have also automatically programmed compensatory pick projections–not just in the past going back to 2013, but also for future compensatory pick offerings. When free agency begins along with the new league year, free agent signings that qualify for the compensatory pick formula will be denoted as such, and as free agency proceeds you will be able to get real time updates and a broad idea on which teams could earn which compensatory picks for the next draft. It will be broad because happenings during the rest of the league year (such as training camp and in-season cuts, injuries, amount of playing time, and postseason honors) could alter the picks further.

It is important to remember that future projections will not known for sure what the picks will be until the NFL’s annual meetings in March when the league announces them, usually on the fourth Monday of that month. It is always anticipated that several of the projected picks will not be exactly correct, and even Adam himself could not project with full accuracy. But there is good confidence that these projections will give a general idea as to where teams stand in earning compensatory picks.

This formula, known primarily by Goodell and the NFL's executive branch, is similar in arrangement as the ping pong ball assignment for draft selection order in the NBA. Not many people understand how the picks are assigned and many believe that Goodell plays Santie Claus at the end of March. WE have a good chance of having two thirds and two fourths this year to go along with our two seconds. Then again, things could fall apart if Santie Claus gets a wild hair up his ass!

So we got ZERO comp picks for 2016 and are expected to get 2 decent picks in 2017. 2017 is when teams can trade comp picks as well.

Not sure about that. The official assignment of comp picks comes out at the end of March during the owner's meetings.

Here we go:

NFL Events: Combine Player Profiles - Keith Marshall

Marshall was at Georgia and right behind Mr. Gurley. Had blazing speed before some knee injuries but still had a 4.31/40 at the combine and led all RBs in bench press (25 reps as well). Hadn't heard of Marshall since the 2014-2015 season.

I say why not? Guy with that speed and that strong + injuries.. I would take a look at him if he's around late.

CBS had him as a 5th-6th rounder, so he could be.
