Here's a little Mexican History lesson for you Esteban - it seems the practice in Mexico is to die trying:

Los Ninos Heroes of the Mexican-American War - Mexico History

The line in the Marine Hymn that goes: "From the Halls of Montezuma" is about this very battle for Mexico City in 1847. However, it was the strategy of the US 3rd Army that day - to fix bayonets and run up the hill taking shots and casualties on the theory they could get there before the Mexicans reloaded - that carried the day on Chapultepec Hill -leading the cadets there to die rather than surrender. The 3rd Army has been assigned to guard the Tomb of the Unkowns in Washington DC - as one of their rewards.\

The 3rd Army (in unique US Army fashion) was actually the first paid military unit organized to fight for the United States after Washington became president (they were the 1st Army until after the War of 1812 - when the US Army was reorganized). The 3rd Army actually began in the Revolutionary War - organized out of Alexander Hamilton's English class at what is now Columbia University. Hamilton had organized his classmates as the "Hearts of Oak" division of the Son's of Liberty - and at the outbreak of the Revolution - the Heart's of Oak - stole the British cannon's in Battery Park - which is now a great vantage point to see the Statue of Liberty. Hamilton's cannons were used to cover Washington's escape from NY city when the British landed 40,000 seaman and troops to quash the rebellion and very nearly pulled that off - if it weren't for Hamilton's cannon and Washington's escape.

After Washington's army escaped NY - Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr rode through the British lines hidden in the same wagon - Burr, of course, later killed Hamilton is the famous due while he was Jefferson's Vice President - a presidency that was only possible due to Alexander Hamilton's political efforts to broker the deal in the House of Representative making Jefferson the president and Burr the vp.
