I just can't get behind the whole "when he's on the field argument."

I hear it about potential draft picks and guys that are already on our roster. It's great that a guy like Sims or Dunlap make big plays when they are on the field. It's great that a guy like Darren McFadden can change the game when he is on the field. What's it matter though when they're never on the field?

Geathers isn't a great player, but we didn't pay him like one.

If you listen to Hobspin, Andre is as good as re-upped in the next four days or so.

I'm waiting for the shock and outrage when he ends up on another team. This strikes me as J-Joe all over again.

It's gonna make for some great conversation over on Bengals.com

I'll be like a kid on Christmas morning. God, I hope it happens today!

Sims shows up to camp every year out of shape and overweight. If he had half the drive of Geno, he'd be an all pro instead of missing half the games every year because he wasn't properly conditioned. Thompson will be ready to step up after a full year in an NFL strength program.

Here's a clear litmus test for whether it's the right or wrong thing to do.

If the Bengals do it, then it was wrong.
If the Bengals don't do it, then it was the right thing to do.

You have no idea what Thompson is capable of.

They got it right last season.... I thought losing Rucker and Faenne was stupid. Guess I was stupid.

Neither do you. Bengals coaches probably do though. Also, Sims will start in Oakland. He was a backup here.

I have got the utmost confidence in our coaches.

No, not really.

Agreed that Sims>Geathers, but you can't just say, let's move Still to DE. He's not a 4-3 DE.

Have you ever seen Devon Still? He's a tall (6'5" 305) linear player with thin hips who reminds me a lot of Darnell Dockett. And yes, like Dockett (6'4" 295), Still would have made an ideal DE in a 3-4 but I believe he would also make a very good Defensive Left End in a 4-3 as he has the speed, power and burst to play on the outside. And lets not for forget that Kevin Carter (6'6" 305), the 6th overall pick in the 1995 draft, was a very similar type player and ended his Career with 104.5 sacks as a DE.

Remember Justin Smith? Still would be Geathers 2.0, a good run stuffer, not able to generate much of a pass rush.
