What did Binns do in the preseason?

The only stats I can find for him are college stats.

He needs to prove himself before being named a potential starter. We face some pretty good defenses on our schedule, marginal talent won't do, so what do we really know about him? Also, if we can't find playing time for a speedy guy like Hawkins, how does Binns figure on ever seeing much time on the field? I guess someone has to step up and replace Caldwell.

I believe he was picked up during the season by the Bengals.

Hawkins is kind of hard to get out there a lot as he's more of a straight slot guy, and not a #2 WR position guy.

Giving the job to Binns would be no worse than playing with what the Bengals had last year in Simpson/Caldwell etc...none of them were that good.

Not saying they should give the job to binns...if there's a guy out there at the draft spot they are in, they they should take him. I have no issues with that at all. I was just pointing out what had been said about Binns by other coaches on the staff...they were impressed enough with him during practices that they wanted to see him get some PT on the field, though it didn't happen.

Are these the same coaches who say Otis Hudson is a real road grader? Sorry Cincyfan, I'm a big UC fan too, but I think your opinion shows at least a little prejudice....if Binns was all that, why in the hell wasn't he drafted? Sounds more to me like the coaches are trying to rationalize away the hole at #2 receiver which simply has yet to be addressed.....hope I'm wrong though.....

My guess is they are going to draft a #2, they've given up on free agent wide receivers, we have Simpson in the wings when he's not doing time, and Binns is the plan for backup.

how many wr's do they keep on the roster though

1. Green Almighty
2. rookie pick
3. Shipley
4. Binns/Simpson
5. Baybee Hawk

do we ever carry more than 5?
I hate to lose Hawkins, but I guess it could happen.

Now given a choice between Binns and Simpson, I'll take Binns, simply because Simpson has already proven he's not good.......only trouble with baby hawk is he does the same things Shipley does, and I'm not sure there's room for two of those on game day.......

This was my entire point. I have no clue how good Binns is, or is not. It just so happens that he's from UC. Take away that fact, and I'm still saying the same thing you just pointed out. Binns, by default, is no worse than simpson, but at best is a good upgrade over what we've already had.

Evan Mathis was who I was refering to, previously. Couldn't crack the lineup, but went to the Saints and was one of the better guards in the NFL, and just cashed in on a good payday from the Eagles. I get what you're saying about Hudson and coach/speak, but it wouldn't be the first time that coaches have asked for players to see more time, only to see Marvin rebuke them in favor of his own guys.

I think Shipley could potientially lineup outside a bit. He did so at Texas, and has experience doing that, though I think we can all agree that his strength is the slot. Hawk will find his way onto the field. There will have to be some mixing and matching, but the kid is a playmaker and can catch the ball.
