Will probably be our #2 again next year, or on the team at the very least.

Cincinnati Bengals open to Jerome Simpson deal despite drug case - ESPN

PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Coach Marvin Lewis says the Cincinnati Bengals are open to offering receiver Jerome Simpson another contract even though he could be headed to jail and faces a suspension from the NFL for violating its substance abuse policy.

Lewis told reporters at the NFL's owners meetings on Tuesday that he wouldn't "rule it out" that the club could offer the free-agent receiver another contract. Simpson has spent his four NFL seasons with the Bengals.

Simpson pleaded guilty on March 1 to a drug-related charge resulting from 2 pounds of marijuana shipped to his home in September. Prosecutors recommended a 60-day jail stay. A judge will decide whether to lessen the punishment at a hearing on April 5.

Simpson also faces a possible four-game suspension from the NFL.

I figured he'd be back, but I don't understand what the big hurry is, no one else wants him.

i betcha they draft a WR in the first four rounds. Supposedly they like Binns alot, too. I'd have no problem bringing Simpson back on the cheap and letting him compete for the starting role. Plus, we get Shipley back and have Green and Gresham. The passing offense should have no shortage of guys to get the ball to.

I'm hoping for Floyd.....he looks NFL ready right now, and has the needed size to be a good #2.....Binns I'm not so sure about.....

I think Binns has good size and enough deep speed and good enough hands to be a solid #2 over the middle type WR. His biggest knock, if I remember correctly, was being able to get off the LOS, get up to speed, and beating press coverage. He's never going to be a super star, but he makes tough catches (or did for UC).

I'd have no issue with drafting a WR at some point, but I'm not a fan of Floyd. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but it seemed he had quite a few issues at N.D.? I'd also have no issue with giving Binns a shot. Hell, the stuck with Simpson for 4 years, and may bring him back. Binns can't be worse.

And people wonder why the Bengals have a reputation like they do.

Of course he'll be back. He's available for almost the league minimum.

Why do you think Ced was welcomed back last season? His assault on his boyfriend lowered the price tag.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Jerome will do some more acrobatics. Earn that league minimum pay.

What round are you actually considering this guy? He could very easily go undrafted...I would say he isn't even in the top 45-50 WR in the draft. Take off those bearcat blinders

Binns is already on the roster. There have been rumblings that some of the coaches last year were trying to get Marvin to put him into the lineup down the stretch last year as his practice/play had impressed several coaches.

No blinders, just stating...if the Bengals can stick with Simpson for 4 years and he didn't know the play-book or couldn't catch a cold on most days...why not give a shot to a guy already on your roster, who coaches have been impressed with, who has good hands, and is a smart football player. If Brown is all about saving money, that would do it.

No worries. This instance just reeks of the same situation they had with the guard that was here (can't remember his name) who couldn't crack the lineup, left as a F/A to the Saints, and was a great player for them, and just signed a nice contract with the Eagles as a F/A.

He basically laughed at the Bengals and never did understand how he could out practice everyone on the line, but couldn't get a shot because Marvin had "his guys".

Floyd would be very tough to pass on. If he's there I'd draft him. I think he goes pretty early, though. I wouldnt be suprised if he doesnt make it outta the top 10. Supposedly they like Wright from Baylor who is a smaller reciever but electric. Also, supposed to be a great locker room guy. Personally, though I think the only WR that could realistically be there that they should draft in 1 is Floyd. There will be good WR's in the next few rounds.

Every roster has scum bags and fuck ups. At least simpson doesnt seem to be a me first type guy like Benson. I've never heard of him causing any issues in the lockeroom.

This is a good thing if we get him back. He's got experience within the system, and if we get someone better he's got experience on the bench as well. That drug arrest has cost him a ton of money. Must've been some good shit.

#53 WR Mohamed Sanu

That would be a nice first two rounds.

I don't think Sanu will be there at 53 personally. I like Rueban Randle about that point though. Also really like Nick Toon if we could get him in the 3rd.
