Was Malkin the BP pitcher? If so, it once again proves that Crosby needs Malkin to serve him up some fat ones in order for Sid to score.

I think Malkin was out at second base stealing signs from the catcher...Those Russians, they're sneaky bastiges.

If I'm not mistaken, Gretzky was a pretty good ball player too.

I seem to remember the Blue Jays drafting him in the late rounds.

Blue Jays drafted Lindros too. I've got a baseball card of him around here somewhere.

Can anybody verify either of these? I feel like should have heard about that by now.

How about positions? Was Gretzky pitching and Lindros catching?

It's easy to score when the goalie is out. I didn't see a goalie did you? ;)

Linros was false:
The hype around Lindros during his early career led to an exclusive deal with sports card manufacturer SCORE. Attempting to leverage this arrangement as much as possible, he was even featured on a baseball card showing him as a third baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays, although the closest he came to a professional baseball career was taking batting practice one day with the Blue Jays.

Gretzky did want to be a baseball player when he was a kid, but I hadn't heard that he was drafted.
Chris Drury pitched a complete game and knocked in 2 RBIs to win the 1989 LLWS though

Thanks, puck. Rep for the pic. Still skeptical on the Gretzky thing. Sounds like a hockey urban legend to me. Like the one that says Grant Fuhr was a great goalie.

Drury was a very good ball player.

I remember watching that game and thinking. This kid will have his name on the Stanley Cup some day.

Not sure of any NHL players who could have played MLB but I know Tom Glavine was drafted by the Kings and once practised with the Bruins. It seems to me there was someone else that was a famous baseball player in the 90s who was also drafted by an NHL team, I just can't think who it was.

You might be thinking of Kirk McCaskill, julian, who had a pretty good MLB career as a pitcher (good years with the Angels) and was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets back in 1981 (thanks hockeydb.com)

Edit: Got the following from wikipedia (including a zinger from Barry Long):

McCaskill was drafted in the fourth round (64th overall) by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. He played only one season of professional hockey for the Sherbrooke Jets, a Jets farm team. During the 1983-84 season, he scored 10 goals and added 12 assists for 22 points. He retired from professional hockey after the one season to focus on his professional baseball career. McCaskill failed to impress Winnipeg coach Barry Long, who commented, "McCaskill plays hockey the way he plays baseball - once every four days."

Larry Walker was a goalie, but didn't make Junior A.
was invited to camp by the Regina Pats, and was the last goalie cut (1983)
