Side note... Merriweather is a waste of a roster spot

No reason to get rid of Meriweather. Not when if healthy he's probably our best defensive back. And there isn't a player out there on the market who'd be better.

Our roster is what it is for this season.

If an injured Merriweather is the best DB on our roster, we are well and truely fucked since Biggers actually did pretty good tonight on five minutes notice. If Merriweather isnt in the game next week, cut him, bring in Chase and roll with it.

Meriweather is a good player when healthy. The problem is... obviously, he's never healthy.

Merriweathers situation is extremely frustrating. Cutting him at this point doesn't do any good as there is no one available to take his spot. However, if he is still unable to go by the bye week, I agree with shark, he's just wasting a spot.

Also, we all see now why Rambo lasted until the 6th round. The good news is he does some things very well. The bad news is he couldn't tackle his grandmother in a phone booth. We have forced him into the lineup too early. This situation is compounded by the limited contact in training camp and practice. The guy needs to practice live tackling against the likes of Helu and Thompson. Every practice they need to set asides some time where he just tackles those guys in open field drills. Unfortunately the CBA doesn't allow for this so his practice is with live ammo in real games.

Not sure he is their most talented, but he may be the most effective if he is relatively healthy. Again - you need to remember that a lot of their current secondary consists of very young guys (that are mainly not very high picks). They may do well over time, but there is a learning process that takes time. If anyone thought differently heading into this season they are just fooling themselves. Part of the learning process consists of making mistakes.

Also - again - this defense does not need to dominate for this team to do well. If they just do alright the offense can cover for a lot of this. It didn't work last night for several reasons that caused the offense to sputter in the 1st half. Oh well - just need to be patient & remember this team is not just built for one year.
