Simple question here. Would it ruin the traditional way or is the NFL ready for something new like this? I'm 50/50 on it.

No..... Because there would be teams with 8-8 records or worse in the playoffs. And yes the Steelers went 8-8 the last two seasons and we did in no way shape or form belong in the playoffs!!!

If it means it increases the Browns chances at a playoff berth, I'm down with it.

It would be more competitive to say the least.

I like the current system. Making the playoffs right now means something. The more teams you add, the easier it is to get in, and making it doesn't mean as much

And how is that different from now?? it is still possible!!! Mathematically speaking the 3rd WC is at worst the 7th best team out of 16 teams, that is still a top half team, so they should be at worst 8-8.

I see no logical reason against it...

Let everybody in. Division winners get three Byes. Football in March always sounded fun.

The question is...
If the playoffs are expanded, will the Lions still find a way to miss them?

I will say that I find many people hypocrites when it comes to this subject...

Thursday night football, is known to be less quality football... But fans love it because it is extra football, doesn't this 2 extra playoff games(1 per conference) do the same... Even if it is less quality... It is not like they are adding another round or anything... ALL they are doing is taking the bye away from the #2 seed... That is all...

It sure makes the one seed more important with only one bye.

Last year the Cardinals would have been worthy, but the Steelers were not IMO.

Yes most fans are hypocrites. They will say they hate it until said team comes from the 7 spot to win it all.

I thought I heard only once in the last so many years ??? a sub 500 team would have made the playoffs. One other than Seattle.

Ya, I remember Seattle being 7-9 and making it and beating the Saints before they got bounced.

(7) I will say that I find many people hypocrites when it comes to this subject...

(1) Thursday night football, is known to be less quality football... (2) But fans love it because it is extra football, (3) doesn't this 2 extra playoff games(1 per conference) do the same... (4) Even if it is less quality... (5) It is not like they are adding another round or anything... (6) ALL they are doing is taking the bye away from the #2 seed... That is all...

This is a jumbled mess of a statement.

1. Thursday night football is the same game that would be on Sunday, so it not lesser quality. It is date change.

2. It is not extra games on Thursday night. It is the exact same number of games being played on a different day of the week.

3. No. Adding games to the playoffs is not the same as playing a game on a different date.

4. This has nothing to do with quality.

5. Who ever said anything about adding an extra round.

6. Expanding to 7 would take away from the bye that the 2 seed earned. 8 would take away both earned byes.

7. There is nothing hypocritical about any opinion on TNF and expanded playoffs because one has nothing to do with the other.

If they expand, it needs to be 8 teams per conference, why give anybody a bye?? They already get home field advantage, isn't a week off to heal a little too much??? Make them a little more even like the NHL and NBA. 7 would at least even it a little, now a team could finish 14-2 and not get the bye if they are 2nd in their division.

I am OK with the proposal but that is the max I would ever consider. TBH though I think they should return to 3 division winners and 1 WC. Half the teams in the playoffs is getting a bit ridiculous. Its not basketball or hockey. Funny thing is the 1 sport that should have half the teams in the playoffs is baseball and they have the least. Baseball should go back to 142 RS games and add to the playoffs.

I'm OK with the current system, but there is one thing I would change. If a team wins a division with 7-9 record or worse, ala the Seattle Seahawks a few years ago, then a third wild card team with a stronger record would take that team's place.

I like the idea if it means all division winners get a bye week. I think a team that wins its division should get a bye. Plus I would rather see the occasional 8-8 team make it than a 10-6 or 11-5 team not make it.

Not that it has effected the Lions, ooooouch!

No.

Sometimes getting a little less of something increases the value and enjoyment. Pretty much all of the professional seasons are too long as it is.

I like how special it is to be one of 12 out of 36 teams to make the NFL playoffs. I don't like awarding mediocrity and I'd hate to see it end up where the NBA and NHL where more than half of the teams make the postseason or even worse like college football where 60% of the teams get in.
