Jim Thornton just wants to lace 'em up and play (from the Sharks blog):

DETROIT — Nothing has changed in the last 24 hours, of course, but here we were again this morning — players prepared to give the same answers to the same questions they heard Thursday.

The highlight was Joe Thornton’s media encounter.

Thornton is generally the first player off the ice and that opens the room to the rest of us. He takes off his equipment, grabs a baseball cap and carefully puts it on his head, stands up and faces the cameras.

Silence.

“OK, who wants to start the same questions as yesterday?,” Thornton asks in a good-natured way.

More silence. Someone suggests that since he knows the questions, why doesn’t he just provide answers.

“Yeah,” he begins. “It’s going to be a good game and we’re excited.”

More silence. Then a question that captures the moment.

“Does the series feel dramatically different today than it did last night?”

Answer: “Yes.

Pause.

“No one’s got anything? All right, thanks.

Finally, a question: Did the Sharks learn any lessons from last year’s loss?

“We’ll find out tonight,” Thornton said. “We can’t tell till after the game so check in after the game.”

There was no malice on either side. Everybody just reached a point in the series where the puck needs to drop and the game needs to play and the media can come up with fresh questions and the players can come up with fresh answers.
