Outcome (injury) should have nothing to do with it. I know a guy who was working in a convenience store, was robbed and at the end the guy put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger and ran out. The guy I know didn't die. So the guy who pulled the trigger got five years for attempted murder. Had my friend died, the guy would have gotten the needle.

Only by the grace of God is my friend still here. And the "punishment" should not have been affected.

I'm just glad that players on other teams are being affected by Shanahan's wild flailing about. Now I'm not so lonely anymore. They day will come soon when he has screwed the pooch on every team in some way and suddenly people will agree with me.

He has been no better than Campbell except for the infomercials.

I don't think that was his point though. Dacks was saying that you get the harsh punishment that your action warrants, but if there so happens to be a foreseeable injury that is quite severe, then you're on the hook for it.

Shoot a guy in the leg; it's not attempted murder. If it hits his femoral artery and he bleeds to death; it's straight-up murder because you shouldn't have fired the gun in the first place.

Injury should increase punishment, but it shouldn't lessen punishment.

Ok but what if you lightly interfere with Tim Connolly? He is out for 8 to 34 weeks, should the offending player be on the hook for that?

If the injury is reasonably foreseeable by the actions of such light interference.

OK, so in other words players should refrain from taking faceoffs, talking to, and looking at Tim Connolly or they wll have to face the consequences.

This has become increasingly obvious. The way these suspensions have occurred has shown no pattern and hasn't cleared up any confusion as a fan, and I'm sure hasn't cleared up the rules for players. Sure, the fans get to watch Shanny explain the ones who actually get suspended, but even the explanations are inconsistent. It's just weird. Even with these videos, every questionable hit doesn't get one, so we end up with just as much of a clouded view.
