No shit. Paul can play with half his fingers gone and a cast. I thought that would be worse scenario for Ray. Maybe miss first two weeks of reg season, then play with cast for a bit. Surprising to me. Pussie! :)

Alfred Williams said linebackers can't really play with a cast
They need to use their hands to much to engage and disengage the offensive players

True- With the bye week that helps.

Still sucks.

Looks like we have to place him there tomorrow for him to be able to return. Anyone placed on IR before or the same day as roster cutdown day stays on IR for season.

Also read this year that instead of activating one player off IR you can active two. I like that rule. Wish the NFL had even better IR rules where there was a 4 week IR spot and up to X amount of players can be placed on 4 week IR and activated anytime after the 4 weeks.

Sounds like the issue deals more with building back up the strength of the hand/arm. Should be healed within a couple of weeks but to make sure the injury doesn't reoccure they need to give him time to rehab and build back up the strength. Plus could be a liability on the field with one arm struggling to anchor.

Sometimes guys missing time early works out in the long run. I think we have enough pieces on defense to gut out the early weeks of the season. This certainly doesn't help, and the pass rush won't be its normal lovable self without Ray but the backside is he won't have as many snaps come playoff time.

With our offense the way it is we really need him to even make the playoffs though. We aren't good enough right now to bank on him as an option to be more fresh for the playoffs because we need everything we can on D just to get there right now. I feel this one really hurts.

I know everyone keeps saying that but I'm willing to see what we actually have before I chalk up this season as "transitional." I'm not convinced this offense is going to be as bad as many expect. The line does look improved and if we have a FUNCTIONAL ground game as a result we are instantaneously better than last year. Even if Siemian's production is a lateral transfer from last year's but coupled to a better ground game we're a better offense.

Ray being missing from the defense is a blow, but we'll still have a functional pass rush and if the run defense is improved the overall effectiveness of the unit should be better.

Now all my optimism is undermined by two big variables. The first is the run defense actually being improved and the second and even greater variable is the O-line. Like I said, I'm willing to see what we actually have before shrugging off this season, but if these aren't fixed I agree we are looking at a sub .500 season easily.

I agree. I think the O line will get better as the year goes as the group needs to play together to become better. Many pieces have changed on the O line.

On the defense Barrett will be key replacement. It he an come back and be effective it will help. He is not as good as Ray but he has experience and has had some success. Week 1 might be rough from a pass rush side of things.

Again. Never said we wouldn't make the playoffs. Just saying I think it's too early to start "resting" players for the playoffs. We have to get their first. Huge difference in approach.

Denver found a loop hole in placeing Shane Ray on IR to return.

You arent allowed to play for 8 weeks but the Broncos play Moday night in week 8 and that sunday counts as week 8.

Awesome!

Maybe we'll end up with the pre-Houston version of Osweiler and see a bump in offense production???:noidea:

We were all experts enough to buy the idea that Osweiler would succeed Peyton Manning - and the Broncos going on winning with Oz (except George). He can do it physically - I don't think Oz can handle his emotions.

Hopefully a return back home will calm him down a bit. He hasn't looked happy since he left Denver.

Ill never forget his reaction when Manning re-entered a game and told Os to stay on the sideline after Os has grabbed his helmet to go in.

Surely some emotion with the guy. Seems like he tries to hide it but often gets caught.

There was a point in our game against Houston (against him) where Brock got fired up. You could see him get the Fierce Weasel look in his eyes and he started nailing throws. He started playing better with a more natural fluidity. The thing that always annoyed me about him was that he played slow. Mentally slow, and it also affected his physical processes. We'll see. He's the back up. Might never come up.
