eklund's dope must have been extra strength today.. why on earth would either team do that? plus marty isn't leaving the devils, period. plus lamarillo (sp?) would have lost his mind if he did this.. semin is good, but he's not worth a goalie that is 1st or 2nd on almost everyone's list as best ever.. and NJ would then have no goalie.. maybe if varlamov or neuvrith went the other way too it would be a little closer to fair.. but geez

his reasons are because if semin goes to NJ then kovalchuk will stay, broduer plays a couple years in washington and makes the cup favorites, then retires and works in NJ front office

I see no reason for any trade involving Brodeur that doesn't involve another goalie. Brodeur will retire soon, so no team wants to give up a long term skater for him unless it's a rental type move, but he's still pretty darn good, and Jersey's backups are on par with the local high school starters, so Jersey isn't going to give him up for a rental that won't help them win anything since their new goalie will suck.

My sources are telling me that this is about as close to a done deal as can be and it will be announced at the draft. The Devils are getting the Caps 1st round pick and the Caps are getting a 3rd or 4th round pick.

I've seen a couple women at Caps' games wearing "I Laich Semin" T-shirts. That's about as hot a shirt as a woman can wear if you are a guy that likes hockey.

As to the rumor.... PLEASE... NOOOOOOO!!!!!! I wouldn't want Brodeur over Varly at this point in his career period. Much less to give up a valuable asset for him. Much less to pay his salary. We're going to spend less than $2 million in salary on goalies next year - that is saving us in the salary cap game and the leftover from that should be used for

Furthermore, it would make more sense to get a goalie mid-season next year if anything. Wait for a team that loses a forward to injury or is out of the playoff race. Caps are GOING to make the playoffs, so there is no sense making a goalie move until 2011 anyway.

I hope this is speculative garbage. It's undoubtedly an asinine idea.

A 3 time cup winner (+ vezinas + golds) for a winger whose play in the playoffs is comparable to wet toilet paper? Not a chance. Not to mention the Devils don't need anymore wingers. They need a second line center...

This isn't fantasy land. Brodeur finished first in wins last year, first in shutouts, third in GAA and 12th in save % all at the age of 37. There's no room on the Devils roster for a soft, one-dimensional floater, Q.
