As the season continues and most of the hopefuls find their way on to the Phillies roster, the team has plenty of options in their seach for an ideal lineup that will give them the offense they need. Looking at the splits for each player and red flags, you can generally see where improvement is needed and how the lineup might be tweeked to face LHP/RHP.

In addition to the current roster, Crawford and Kingery are in the mix for next year. Cozens is not ready but has time to improve. This past week at LHV, Kingery has been playing ss and 3rd, and Crawford has tried out at 2nd and 3rd. On the Phils, Hoskins did fine in left field and Galvis played center for a day as the team tries to look at all possibles. September callups will be interesting. There's a lot here for a keen manager to work with. And the team can only support 12 or 13 position players in the regular season. If the guys listed on this page can't get it done, who can?

One potential lineup:

1 Hernandez 2b S (LHP.264/RHP.295)
2 Herrera of L (LHP.315/RHP.276)
3 Altherr of R (LHP.233/RHP.307)
4 Hoskins 1b R (LHP.250/RHP.321) / Joseph 1b R (LHP.193/RHP.255)
5 Franco 3b R (LHP.216/RHP.227)
6 Williams, of L (LHP.280/RHP.281)
7 Galvis ss S (LHP.265/RHP.246)
8 Alfaro c R (LHP.308/RHP.375) / Rupp c R (LHP.253/RHP.211)

Bench:
Nava of/1b S (LHP.188/RHP.338)
Blanco if S (LHP.179/RHP.163)
Knapp c S (LHP.194/RHP.268)

Waiting:
Cozens, 23, of L LHV (LHP.201/RHP.216) Last 10 .179; 26 HR, .212/.298
Crawford, 22, ss L LHV (LHP.225/RHP.241) Last 10 .135; .237/.346
Kingery, 23, 2b R LHV (LHP.277/RHP.305) Last 10 .227; .307/.359

There will be a battle among the catchers next season. Also, I don't see how Kingery and Crawford can both be added next year.Unless they become bench players. But there is alway

Got cut off on last response. There is always the chance that they trade Franco and open up a spot at third.

They won't find out if Franco should be traded until next year. Maybe winter ball would help him find his power stroke and get some more hot seasoning.

You have to trade Franco and start Crawford at 3rd.
Hernandez, Herrera, Altherr, Hoskins, Crawford, and Williams need to play everyday next season.

Without the consistent hitting and power we thought we had with Franco, we have at least a medium size power vacuum. But it may not matter with the power demonstrated by Hoskins, Williams, and Alfaro. I'm hoping that Maikel can work it out but it's only 50-50.

JP looks sharp at third and I saw Kingery's excellent 2b play at Reading last year. Cesar has only played 60 games at ss the last 3 years but could possibly could do it on a regular basis with Kingery at second and JP at third (or other mixes). JP, 22, does have some HR power, with 15 HR, 63 RBI in 127 games at LHV this year. The puzzle will be interesting to follow, especially with low OBP guys Galvis and Franco not ruled out so far.
