I was legit not expecting an EWS from Conforto there. I was getting ready for the end of the inning in my head…
I wish this had been the way the game went.

alas, Bird might not be the answer this year.

If Conforto didn’t bend Bird over and have his way with him, it would have been a completely different game.

Sure, but he shat all over the mound as well. He deserved the loss
The second inning never should have happened. Conforto should have caught that ball, and Ramos should have been backing him up to make it, at worse, a 2-base error instead.

This year? Hardly matters as they aren't going to the playoffs. The question is which of Harrison, Hicks, Birdsong and whoever will round out the back end of the rotation after they re-sign Snell for a run next year.

Ok, but that doesn’t excuse the moundshattery. baseball fans have this weird way of reconstructing innings…’but for’ that call or ‘but for’ this play he would have given up no runs. As if you can go back and change just the one thing and everything else stays the same.

Correct, and we have the rest of this non playoff year to figure it out

Oh, I agree. His meltdown after that error is entirely on him. His immaturity showed there, and he absolutely needs to treat that game as a learning experience.

But to completely discount the importance of that error is more revisionist history than assuming everything else would have occurred the same (both are illogical, btw)
