Why is the NFL so greedy right now? Are they in a serious financial slump? The on-field ads are bad enough and now artists have to pay to play.

That's lame... however, the last half time show I enjoyed was when Springsteen played.

Is it even possible for SB halftime shows to get worse? LOL I have never cared about the halftime acts, but I have to admit that I was impressed to learn that the NFL not only has never paid the halftime performers, but the league this year intends to up its game by having whichever act performs pay the league. Reminds me of that scene in The Godfather when Hyman Roth tells Michael Corleone, "Michael, we're bigger than AT&T.".

Honestly it is not as crazy as it sounds. It is the NFL doing some penny pinching but essentially the NFL gives whoever performs the biggest musical platform in the world to sing on. Every artist that has performed over the last 10 years has made millions of dollars. Yes the NFL does not pay these performers but they do take on all of the costs for stage, back up dancers, props, travel, lodging, and whatever else which usually adds up to in the millions of dollars just for the performance. So taking a cut of what the artist would make to help absorb some of those costs makes a little sense.

I've pretty much stopped watching the halftime altogether so I don't care...but, it just further shows that the NFL is going to milk the golden goose until there's nothing left...give them about 30 yrs and the NFL will go the way of boxing.

I'd really like to know how much money the league actually nets for putting on the Super Bowl. The costs involved in putting on the half time show are probably miniscule in comparison to the league profits. Seems the league is penny pinching.

Penny grabbing.

More eyeballs are watching halftime than the game. That and the commercials add tons of TV revenue.

Personally when halftime comes on:

I get up to pee
refill my pitcher of beer
reload my plate with food
then proceed a long slow walk back to my seat where I get situated and concentrate on my plate of food until the kickoff...

So the logic of the NFL is we're giving them publicity so therefore we shoud get a share? Um, the Super Bowl halftime acts typically don't need anymore publicity. They aren't up and coming bands playing on late night talk shows for potential new fans. They are established acts that the majority of the population has heard of. Now you're going to get way more one hit wonders that record companies will try and push.

The game is slowly being killed off by the owners and lawyers. It will eventually be considered to dangerous to play. It is already starting in the Pop Warner and Kids Inc League. Mothers don't want to risk their babies by allowing them to grow into men. It will filter up through the years, less players, less talent. 7 to 10 years from now high schools will feel the loss. 8 to 12 years smaller college programs will begin to suffer. 15 to 20 years and the NFL will be hurting for players to draft. Why do you think the League is putting money into the whole coach certification nonsense?
During the whole process the insurance rates will go through the roof and the profits will dwindle, as will players salaries. Every time a player has a serious injury or a vet forgets what he had for breakfast Congress will stick it's nose in a little more. Taxes will be levied and laws will be passed. Goodell will be long gone but this is the legacy he and the owners will be remembered for.

I could give a crap less. Once halftime starts I leave my post, grab a couple of cold ones, and don't return until the game starts again. Half time is for all the casual to non-football fans. Let's face it, SB Sunday has become an event. It should be a national holiday in my opinion.
