The Washington Post considers the franchise tag a "high likelihood" for free agent Kirk Cousins.
Per reporter Mike Jones, there are "no indications that the sides are venturing closer in negotiations." Jones reports there remains "differing opinions" inside the organization regarding Cousins' "ceiling and worth." Jones also says Cousins remains "salty" about his handling by the team. Tagging Cousins a second straight year would cost $23.94 million, and essentially let Cousins call his shot in 2018. A third franchise tag would be far too expensive.
