Giants, Sandoval Agree To Extension: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

3 years, 17 million, plus incentives.

Buys out all his arbitration years, but no FA years. No word on how the salary is divided.

This really just avoids the Giants having to worry about Pablo through the arbitration process, and he can still sign a longer term deal with us. If he keeps up his 2009 and 2011 pace, this could become a steal. If he shows he's on track again next year, I could see a longer extension next offseason. Same goes for Posey (will be his first arbitration year next year)

I remember us getting into a debate last season over how much he would make if an extension was signed.

Some people thought Beltre yearly numbers were in order, and some thought Longo numbers were more appropriate.

Team longo #'s wins!

All this does is buy out his arbitration years, it's really not like the Longo contract really. There is still the opportunity to sign either a Beltre or Longo contract though. If Pablo proves himself next year, then he may still sign a bigger contract on top of the current one (a la Matt Cain a couple years ago).

3.2/5.7/8.25 according to Baggs:

Giants sign Pablo Sandoval to three-year, $17.15 million contract, exchange record-setting arbitration numbers with Tim Lincecum | Extra Baggs

As Baggs points out, a month ago we had 12 arb eligible players (Timmy, Chez, Towers, RamRam, Casilla, Fonty, Panda, Romo, Nate, Eli, Burriss, Song) and now we have two (Timmy, Romo). Pretty nice work by SabeySabes and Co.

Chez -- traded; Melky signed.
Towers -- traded; Pagan signed.
RamRam -- traded.
Casilla -- 1 year/ 2.2
Fonty -- 1 year/ 1.05
Panda -- 3 years/ 17.15
Nate -- 1 year/ 1.3
Eli -- 1 year/ 0.6
Burriss -- 1 year/ 0.6
Song -- 2 years/ 8.3

My guess is Romo gets 2/4 and Timmy 4/90.

We were simply talking about $$$$ per year in his years of ARB. If he keeps it up, then there's no doubt he'll be one of the top paid 3B in all of baseball come his FA years.

More good news. If Belt and Crawford pan out they, along with Sandoval and Posey, will make a nice, young infield for the foreseeable future.
