Play of the playoffs nominee.

But c'mon Scott Hannan. Can't let a guy through the goal mouth like that.

I can see that he was holding the lane to keep the pass from getting through (right move/wrong move you can argue both), but how does Boyle not plaster the living hell out of Gabby when he makes the move inside? Even if the puck still goes in, Gabby will not make that move again. Nor will anyone else.

doubtful on the bold ... if the puck goes in and he gets plastered after the goal ... probably a penalty on boyle and dutter will be telling his players that good things happen when you drive the net like that

hannan should have taken the puck carrier (Gaborik - who is the more skillful player), given the goalie the shot and boyle could have jumped up to defend martinez

Kings score 4 including the winning goal and still lose.
Teams make their luck but the first goal and the last both were signs the the hockey gods hate the Kings.
I am going to pretend the Kings have a chance but my wife is already saying how upset she is that the Kings blew their chance to play the Ducks

Hannah should have given Gabby the 'Ryan Smyth' treatment.

San Jose's win last night was the first Western Conference playoff game this year where the home team did not win.

Man, so much for the goalie's union sticking together :D

We get touchy when someone has success doing everything wrong, mechanics-wise.

that is sticking together :D that is a bonafide COM-PLI-MANT as when your GAA is way over 7 you have to find something nice :D

Ive never understood how they can be so good and succesful using their "techniques" I dont think Ive ever seen goalies stay so low and be so good at it.

in my league we had one guy that owned us and all he did was go down, we just couldnt roof it on him for some reason. we met them in the finals and FINALLY got it sorted out we won 3 games to none and put 17 behind him in those 3.

until this playoffs, I never noticed how consistently low Qu16k gets when he's got a screen in front of him ... its as if he is trying to peek under the skates of the guys screening him lol

just the over aggression and over play of pucks this series is astonishing ... does ranford even give any input??? ... because he needs an intervention at this point ... he can get so out of position and lose squareness to the shooter

with all that movement, you get the feel he makes a lot of otherwise easy saves look difficult

he is relying so much on his reaction, that will lose you fast in this league. that OT winning goal, to me it looked if he was standing higher he might have had that, however the angle of the replays are tough to get a impression on that.

What I remember about Quick from the last couple years is that he never gets scored on low. He does such a good job sealing up the bottom third of the net, and relies on his aggressive challenging and glove / blocker to block other shots. The reason it worked so well the last few years is the Kings had a tremendous physical D that made it near impossible to gain real-estate in front of Quick. Most of the shots against were from the point our outside the dots. That also allows him to come out and challenge as the Kings D would take away any one-time opportunities or back door plays. For whatever reason, the Sharks had a TON of room in the Kings end in Games 1 and 2; and while considerably less, still were able to gain position in that real-estate last night.

Last year in that awesome 7 game series I remember there was no such thing as an uncontested shot vs LA in scoring position, and if you were lucky enough to get a rebound you were going to be mauled by at least one King. Last year, Hertl does not get three whacks from the crease area, Marleau probably doesn't get an uncontested backhand in close in OT, and Nieto- not Quick- is being bodied by the Kings defenseman.

This year, something is just different about the way LA is playing. They just seem like a less athletic team. Maybe they are burned out after two successive deep playoff runs? Maybe, as a Kings poster here mentioned, they haven't developed enough depth and are leaning too much on a small number of guys?

That being said, LA did play very well yesterday and that game could easily have gone their way. That was the type of game I was expecting all series.
