It's official and just needs the vote's from the NHL BOG and that seems like a formality.

Galisano said he was offered 70 million more from another source but that buyer would not guarantee the team would stay here. Terry Pegula. bought the team with the stipulation that the team stay's here.

Great news for Sabres fans. The source of this information is the press conference that is taking place right now.

Thanks dash, They were talking about some of the innovations that this organization started that I never realized. I knew they were the first team in sports to have "Flex" prices for different game's but did not know that they were the first team to implement the "ice shovels" used during the commercial time out's to keep the quality of the ice good during the period's. So next time you see those pretty "Ice Girls" you can thank the Sabres. :D

Interesting.

time to hire those scouts back ... this wasnt the act of being "visionary" like Golisano said ... it was just being cheap ... you buffalo guys should throw a big ass party celebrating that the old owner is gonzo

good article today

Scouting cuts hurt Sabres under Golisano - Elliotte Friedman

You are spot on jstew. This was a terrible mistake and obviously showed. It's Okay to say "We always spent near the cap" but if you cut other vital parts of organization that are essential to a winning team it doesn't matter. Some of the contracts they gave out were strange to say the least.

A successful organization is successful because they are cognizant of ALL departments of the organization.

Terry Pegula is a season ticket holder and a great hockey fan. He has more of a feel of what the fans want and a former resident of Orchard Park. He has the pulse of the community and twice as much money as Galisano. I think this will work.

I thank Mr Galisano for "saving" the team after the Adelphia debacle but in all honesty it was an investment to him and frankly winning was secondary. He had only seen a handful of games live when he bought the team unlike Terry Pegula that is a great fan.

Time will tell but I have a good feeling about this.

Congrats, Boss.... an owner who is passionate about hockey doesn't necessarily equal an automatic Cup, but it sure as hell helps. It makes losing easier to swallow too if you feel like everything possible is being done to win. I hope you guys get your mug.

that's one of the first thing that the Francescos said when they bought the Canucks.
There is a cap on players' salaries, but not on coaching staff, training facilities, etc.
Nucks went all out wherever they could, (full time goalie coach, sleep experts, etc)
and it has helped with the product on the ice,and that in turn helps attract free agents.

I think he probably turned it down as he knew the NHL wouldnt allow it to move anyway and the sale would have been void. Wonder if it was RIM again trying to get back in.

Im glad they are getting someone that wants to make it work there. Buffalo has a great history and has always been one of my favorite teams outside my own. This being said why again is Galisano selling? is he hurting?

if this is true ... id have to guess that is was Balsillie ... he's the only guy out there who has shown time and again that he is willing to overpay and certainly his intention would have been to move the team

on the other hand, I dont believe Golisano ... I think he's saying this to spin himself as the good guy who saved the franchise and upon leaving made sure it wouldnt leave Buffalo ... his actions have shown as bossman pointed out this was an investment for him and he was all about the money

Hooray, now every other team in the Northeast has an owner that cares. Sorry Sabres fans, but I am secretly hoping Pegula turns into the second coming of Charles Wang in the nutcase billionare owner dept.

You;re probably right jstew because it doesn't make sense. BTW he was asked by a Buffalo reporter if it was Balsillie and he emphatically answered NO IT WASN'T.
