I like the signing and it shows the new ownership is willing to keep good players. he was on a tear for a while this year.

The Buffalo Sabres have signed Drew Stafford to a multi-year deal. We'll post more details and opinions at WGR550.com as we uncover details of his new contract!

Remember, the on-line auctions for the WGR Golf Tournament begin on June 20th so get your group together!

BTW they also let Brian McCutcheon go and that's good news. He was in charge of the PP that sucked !

Saw this coming. Stafford was in a contract year, so of course he did well. He earned it last year, but going in to last season, everyone was saying this was his last chance to prove he could play well consistently rather than just stretches of brilliance.

We will see ifhe can do it again, or if his wallet weighs him down now.

Good for the Sabres. Buffalo is in a great position to make some serious noise in the near future. They've got a good young team with a very good prospect pool. I only have two questions about the future:

1. How busy will the Sabres be on July 1st? Brad Richards would be a perfect fit.

2. If Regier can't sign the UFA's he wants will he trade any of the Sabres prized prospects in order to improve the team for next season?

Good questions. I think now that the self imposed cap is gone the Sabres will be more active in the free agent market.

In the past they wouldn't trade prospects because obviously they are cheaper to keep on the payroll. I honestly feel Pegula wants a winner and will spend the money to do so. Richards would be a nice fit.

They have already dona a couple of things I like by signing Stafford (long term) and making a coaching change that I feel has crippled this team for a while. Taking Brian Mc out and off of the PP is a good move IMO.

I have followed this team forever and feel they are headed in the right direction.

Pegula has done some things that have made players say "It's different now and it's nice to know we have an owner that want's to win" That speaks volumes coming from them. Vanek made that comment and his play showed it after the change in ownership.

That all sounds like great news for Buffalo fans. I hope Pegula can help build a team that is a contender year in and year out.
