Ovechkin tallies early to make it 1-0. Sabres can't answer on the PP and we're halfway through the 1st period.

I like how all 4 of the Sabres backed off the guy with the puck in order to allow OV to get a shot at scoring a goal.

Yep their inability to win face offs has been a real problem (see the OV goal) The forwards don't come back to help out the d men to clear the zone.

The gaps have been terrible in both ends of the ice.

Yep, the Sabres have a much better chance at rebuilding if they get the 1st or 2nd pick in the draft, rather than a pick in the 10-15 range.

How many years do they finish just shy of the PO's, or get bounced after the 1st round, and then have nothing to show for it when they draft?

Rooting for them to win right now is rooting for them to stay mediocre.

Going to the game yesterday was a big help. My son and I were watching the d men vacate the zone if a Sen touched the puck and if a Sabre got it back their options were limited. I disagree with most as I posted a week ago in another GNT. (long post) Teams succeed with a attitude and a good system history has proven that drafting high mean nothing, see the Wings, Devils and look at Edmonton they draft hih and suck.

So the Penguins didn't turn their franchise around when they drafted Crosby and Malkin?

The Blackhawks didn't have success after they drafted Kane?

The Bolts didn't get better after they got Stamkos?

The Caps didn't become a better team after they got OV?


Are you saying the Sabres wouldn't be a better team if they drafted any of the above players over who they took in the 1st round in those years?

I'm not saying that getting the 1st pick of the draft is going to work out 100%, but if a team doesn't have a chance to make the PO's, wouldn't you rather have them get the 1st pick rather than the 13th?
