The Blue Jackets aren't waiting for the NHL entry draft this month to start work on what they hope will be a summer of blockbuster deals.
Multiple NHL sources have told The Dispatch that the Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers have discussed a trade that would send Flyers center Jeff Carter, an All-Star in 2009, to Columbus for a top-six forward and the No. 8 overall pick in this year's draft. That top-six forward, presumably, is 21-year-old Blue Jackets winger Jake Voracek, a restricted free agent.
Though it could occur sooner, it's likely such a trade wouldn't be completed until the first round of the entry draft is held on June 24 in St. Paul, Minn.

Hey if he gets that kind of money, more power to him, but those are pretty crazy dollars for a guy who really struggled in the playoffs.

Interesting, but I think ultimately lacking.

Nash needs a franchise, playmaking centre to take him to the next level. Carter just isn't that guy.

IMO Carter has been insulated by a stellar group of top six forwards in Philly. If thrust into top dog status he will, I believe, be a huge disappointment.

CBJ needs to stay the course for at least one more year. Voracek is no slouch and they need to see just how good Johansen will become.

No real surefire superstars in this draft, but it looks very deep from 1-~45.

The Flyers would almost surely get a damn good player at #8.
