Rumor: Richards for Phaneuf?

Just had been seeing this mentioned on a few websites, and also mentioned by some analysts (McGuire) as possibly happening. Another website has Richards also going to possibly Winnipeg. Personally, I don't see the deal with Toronto happening as Phaneuf makes more $$ than Richards does. But clearly Richards doesn't have anything left in the tank, or at least very little, and his contract is going to truly be an albatross in the next few years.

I know Deano can be loyal to a fault, but if he wants to keep Williams AND Stoll, then somebody else has to go. Obviously the Kings need D-men with Voynov throwing the wrench into the situation, and McBain, McNabb & Shultz not cutting it. I think with Shore being up, he slots into the 3C/4C, with Stoll taking the other slot, ultimately making Richards expendable. I'm sure some team will take a chance on Richards as he is a proven winner, and can be a great locker room presence for a young team.

. I think they have already screwed the pooch with at the very least Williams unhappy. I doubt Phanuef is the answer and it is really irrelevant who will fill in for Richards. There is a roster full of guys not even making much effort so might as well move a few and see what happens

If you think Richards contract is bad, Phaneuf's is worse. This is the first year of a 7 year, $7 million contract. It would make our cap situation worse, not better.

No way this happens. For this trade to happen the Maple Leafs would have to take on half of Phaneuf's salary. This is a media dreamed up rumor to have some story other than the all-star game. Sure Toronto would love to dump Phaneuf and his $7M per year salary. It would be more about dumping Phaneuf than acquiring Richards. On top of that I don't think Richards is tradeable at this time. He'll have to jack up his performance before anyone would take a chance on him.

I made an oath that I would never doubt this group of players ever again. Not that I'm not open to a trade.

This team can make the playoffs which puts every other playoff team on notice.

Pipe dream for sure.

Richards stinks these days, but Phaneuf isn't much better on the back end.
