RUMOR: Gagne Trade

I dont see a reason to get rid of gagne for anything other than a goalie?

We are set at forward. Yea we need wingers, but getting rid our our best winger doesnt exactly help that too much.

i mean, i kinda agree with awaz in that it seems like the flyers aren't interested in getting a goalie in this trade. unless it's a salary dump to sign a vet goalie short term? someone like turco or nabby? i dunno. it doesn't make much sense, but even the high end insiders seem to think he's done in philly.

just the cap space, which is why if gagne goes i'm going to be pissed..

homer has shown too much loyalty in the past (stevens).. the way he talks about leighton and the way he signed him prior to july 1 makes me think he plans on giving leighton the reins to start the season.. the flyers have like 500k to play with and thats not enough when you consider call-ups and having a couple healthy scratches just in case..

something has to be done.. and right now it looks like gagne is the guy homer is looking at moving, which is the absolute wrong decision..

2. hartnell
3. briere (i'd be pissed if he left too)
4. coburn

4 guys that should be shopped before gagne IMO

1st off stop it with all the goalie to philly moves.. its not going to happen.. if gagne gets traded it will be for a younger, cheaper winger, and draft picks or prospects.. the flyers already have leighton, boosh, backlund, and bobrovsky on NHL/AHL contracts.. they aren't getting another one

and i will be very sad if gagne goes, regardless of who comes back

they still might get a goalie. homer has not committed to leighton. also, if we got rid of gagne then it frees up a ton of space to get a goalie.

i do not care if our team is better next year. gagne is a fan favorite and there are people who should be traded ahead of him. even if we get a great deal i will be angry.

also, if we traded him for a young winger then we would still have room for a goalie which is what i think they would try to sign. awaz, what does homer say that gives you the impression he likes leighton? the fact that he said that he will keep looking at goaltending and see whats there? the only positive thing he said was that he would be comfortable with our goaltending if nothing changed which is what he is supposed to say.

I sincerely think it is either a trade for a goalie (bernier is the only guy I want to trade for), or freeing up cap space to sign Nabby.

This has goalie written all over it.

thomas would be the worst idea and would not help the cap at all. i would much rather have nabokov or turco. they will be cheaper and are just as good.

I just popped into this thread to say I really like Simon Gagne and can't really understand why the Flyers would want to trade him (unless they were getting a fantastic player or package in return).

it makes sense. he makes a lot of money and if the flyers get a young winger and picks for him then they will have space to upgrade their goaltending as well. besides, his contract is up next year along with carter, giroux, and leino. someone has to go. sad that it might be gagne.
