Dat 348 OBP tho!

Hahaha. His OPS+ is 26.

He'll sort it out. Remember when he was a top-rated, can't miss prospect? That's why I never get too excited about prospects until they start paying dividends in the Majors. There have just been WAY too many "can't miss" busts. Don't get me wrong, I think Gordon is a solid outfielder and I'd be happy to have him on the tribe, but compared to what they said his ceiling was, he's a disappointment.

butthurt Angels fans

The Angels lost to the Royals Sunday, getting swept in the three game home series. C.J. Wilson was to blame for this game, gutlessly giving up seven runs and returning to his nibbling ways.

But the real story is suddenly the Kansas City Blue Barbecue is trying to grill opponents for getting hits. Unless KC's team doctors gave pitcher Yordano Ventura a lobotomy prior to game time, there is absolutely no excuse for talking smack when the reigning MVP gets a hit off of you and then to confront Mike Trout when he slides in cleanly at home plate... oh wait a minute, I guess Kansas City players get angry when a man makes it home from third base because they could not do the same in the last game of 2014's World Series.

Is this what teams are going to have to put up with this season - a cocky Kansas City? Are their fans going to go all Red Sox Nation on us? Did they run around the stadium smearing barbecue sauce everywhere in Anaheim these past three days?

Angels lost on a familiar meltdown by CJ but the real story is Kansas City apparently thinks it has a dynasty to swagger on about. Don't dare slide at home like that one guy should have last October - they gonna get in YO face for reminding them.

He was certainly a disaster at 3B compared to other-worldly expectations; the Brett expectations were bizarre and completely out of line. He's been an excellent LF'er though, and by WAR the past 4 years, the best one. He might be a failure compared to what his purported offensive ceiling was, but I kind of do think he has more than redeemed himself with the glove, IMO. Definitely agree about the prospect comment. It's why I'll continue to be very skeptical of the Red Sox in particular, along with the Cubs, for a couple months at the very least.

Offensively, maybe

Nobody thought he was going to be the best LF'er in the game though.

I don't give a shit about comparisons. As I said, he was the top prospect in baseball. He's become a damn good outfielder, but he's not a top player in the league. I'm not shitting on him, but rather prospects as a whole.

Wieters is another one. I think he had one of, if not the, most offensively productive minor league careers in history. Now he's considered a defensive backstop.

Wieters went from "Mauer with power" to "Power without Mauer"

I fully understand that having a strong farm is important, but I think fans think it means more than it does. The Indians had a top-3 farm all through the second half of the aughts, and what did it get them? One playoff berth.

Cant disagree with any of this.

Same with Moose and Hosmer, who have not lived up to their hype yet either.

You can name players on every team who not lived up to their hype. But whose fault is that? do we blame those hyping the player, or do we blame the player?

You can name tons of players for every team who were highly-touted prospects that didn't pan out. I've got over a decade's worth of Baseball Prospectus Annuals and looking through their top 10 prospects by year can be amusing.

I don't think it's a blame game at all, I think it illustrates the crapshootidity of prospects. I think fans need to be more aware of the fact that having a top farm does not guarantee future MLB success.

"You’re always tired of it," Yost said. "It’s a situation where you know obviously, bases loaded, they’re not trying to . . . But guys are going to have to start exhibiting better command. It was, what, two more today?

"Yeah, we’re getting tired of it."
