It is not a management decision. It is ownership. They decide our bidget and at the time, they were a little weary of spending too much. We arent the yankees. This teams needs to prove we can consistantly compete so that the dollars keep rolling in and we can expand our budget. Ther is no blaming Ruben here. He has been incredible.

Seriously, how greedy has our fan base gotten? Before 2007 when the phillies werent even "cool" in this city, our management/ownership was NEVER involved in any big trade or free agent acquisitions.

Now look at us, we are quickly becoming one of the most aggressive teams out there. Yes, I wish we got more for Lee. But at the time, it looked like we needed to trade him. Budget wise and farm wise. Now looking back, Yes I think we would all take Lee back, but at the time didnt seem feasible.

Are the Phillies signing your paycheck? At the time it still looked like a stupid move, considering he was locked up for another year regardless, then if he wanted more they could've let him walk. The Phillies make so much money, there is no spending budget, there is a "saving" budget. The owners have been cheap forever what makes you think just because we won a WS that has changed. There is more than enough money to go around. The Cliff Lee trade never looked like a good idea, EVER.

+1 for 100% agreement

It's called the bandwagon, and it's bigger than the one in Pittsburgh during the winter. It's unbearable.

Ohhhh no people enjoy winning, I guess Rollins was right. We are all front runners. If its so unbearable move to Florida, they can win championships over and over again and never gain a single fan.

Why yes, as a matter of fact they are lol.

And yes, ownership has changed. We have sold out every game this season and then some. That has never happened before. Now they see the fan base is there, for now at least, they are going to provide us with some superstar athletes.

I don't know if your being serious with them not expanding our budget or not, but it has more than doubled in less than 5 years. That is amazing, especially for the real fans who have been here before 2007 when our budget was around 80 million. Now it looks like we are approaching the 200 million mark in the near future. Relax, if you want to complain about bad deals, look at Joe blanton getting 8 million. What a bad move that was.

Only the Yankees, Mets, and Red Sox have nearly unlimited resources in Major League baseball. Teams like the Phillies, Dodgers, and Angels have huge budgets, but they're not unlimited. Consequently, those teams, like small market teams, have to build their core internally. And that is how the Phillies won their first World Series. They can afford a few superstar free agents to complement that core, unlike small market teams, but the fact remains that the internal growth of the farm system is the driving force behind sustainable success.

The Phillies didn't mortgage anything with this trade. Happ, in my opinion, is extremely overrated. Oswalt is a better pitcher now than Happ will likely ever be. It was a pretty good trade for the Phillies. In my opinion, J.C. Ramirez is their most intriguing pitching prospect, and they retained him, so it's kind of a win-win.
