I hate that the shooter can create the contact with the defender standing there and then the defender get called for the foul

The problem is with how the rule is structured. Getting into legal guarding position and then moving toward the ball handler is a big no no as well. The ones that tick me off are when the defending is going BACKWARDS and the ball handler basically runs him down and they reward the offensive player.

It has been a good afternoon as I was a homer with the bracket picking WI.

I dont get all the hype with the Wisky bad seed as they way I see it each of the teams are in the tourny to win it. At some point if you are planning on winning it you need to beat the top seeds. If it is round 1 or round 2 the good teams will come along and you will have to beat them.

Would be hilarious if both Michigan teams won against Louisville and Kansas tomorrow.

I really wish College would change their fouls from 5 to 6. These refs play too much of a factor with BS calls. A Northwestern player just picked up his 2nd foul on an absolutely shit call. Now he is probably sitting for the final 13 minutes of the half.
There is a reason why teams carry more than 5 players on their roster. You need depth in case of adversity. Bad calls suck but they won't reverse it now.

Part of the issue and why boards are always bitching about refs is they tend to change their calls based on the situation. 1st halfloor it is called tight and the last 5 minutes anything goes.

Which is a sign of bad officiating.

You gotta call it the same way throughout the game.

The rare exception would be if a game is seemingly getting out of hand you may call it extra tight to try and get everyone to cool out and back off.

Yeah, good point on the moving toward player.. However... the defender should have a right to a spot on the floor too... I don't think this is a rule that will even be changed however...

I hate the vertical jump by the defender and he gets called. He is entitled to his space.

Yeah I get it but seeing top players in lots of foul trouble basically in every game sucks.

I feel like Northwestern is going to get embarrassed as they did last Saturday. Hope I'm wrong though

He DOES have the right.

That's why the charge was also created.

But it's not called nearly enough.

The rule for legal guarding position is pretty simple.

2 feet on the floor, facing the player, in front of him.

No space requirement.

No you have to be still as a statute.

Nothing.

A great example of it was the Tenn/Mich game a few years ago when they hit Stokes with a charge even though the guy was still moving. he got his 2nd foot down and was in legal guarding position.

Fun fact: most coaches at the sub college level teach this, but if your foot is out of bounds, you cannot get a charge, it HAS to be a block...why? because you cannot be in legal guarding position when you have a foot out of bounds.

and that is why it has been so incinsistent.. One offical abides by this, the others don't
