I think Chung is here this year for sure. I think Richards could replace Harmon.
I'm not against Harmon but with all the potential talent on both offense and defense some of these guys will not be on the 53 man roster.
Harmon, Ebner, King, Richards?
It really comes down to what BB, Josh and Matt come up with?
But you don't get rid of Harmon on a fresh contract with an aging Chung losing a step until somebody else steps up.....

Harmon isn't going anywhere. He just got a big extension. Plus, as @BigKen and I touched on yesterday...Harmon comes up with big plays in big games. Didn't he almost come down with an INT on the sideline in SBLI?

Has Richards shown anything? Let alone taking Chung job.

I agree. But I don't think Chung leaves this year I think BB wants his veteran presence?
Richards has had a lot less playing time but has stepped up with big plays as well when afforded the opportunity.
He's cheaper on his rookie deal. Unfortunately, he's shorter.
Again it's nothing against Harmon. I wish NE keeps all of them. But I feel like others on here a couple of these DBs won't be on the team come the spring.

And we had that 19-0 season when Asante Samuel almost had that interception in the Super Bowl that year. Oh wait....

Since when do we give credit for accomplishments that almost happened?

Jordan Richards has been a bust. Seriously, they drafted him as a potential "coach on the field". He's extremely smart, picks up the playbook easily, knows what he's doing............just can't "do it". At 5'11" 210 he doesn't appear to be willing to put his body on the line. Brandon King is a human missile at 6'2" 220. I'd rather have King as a back up or replacement for Chung. I really want someone who 'likes' to hit other people.

Damn...Harmon just got a new contract and was one of the hotter FA S out there. No way he leaves this team. Ebner got an extension and is a ST ace who runs the punt team. No way he goes anywhere. SO we have DMC, Chung, Harmon, Ebner. I don't remember a time last yr where more than 4 S were dressed. The only battle there is between Richards and Killings. Unless Chung has absolutely fallen off the face of this earth in terms of talent then he is here. Harmon will replace Chung when that time comes.

CB are pretty much set if you ask me. Gill, MB, Rowe, J.Jones, Cy.Jones. J.Jones as Ken said, has been in the slot and Cy.Jones, if he can improve on his PR will be the guy. Odd man out is Coleman if you ask me. Now unless Revis walks thorough that door, I think it's set.

I have no sentiment at all for Revis... He did his job here and decided to move on.. We were fine without him and don't need the distraction he brings, between being a diva (probably less now) and the juxtaposition of what was Revis Island to what now appears to be Revis Continent.

Revis is just like the anti drug campaign. "Just say no"unless some pharmaceutical company wants to give him to us for pennies on the $

Exactly... Why say we want or or don't when every decision the pats make is about where the value is....

May 28, 2017

Deadlines, as they say, spur action.

But some of us don’t want to wait for such things as training camp and preseason games to begin to assess and project the Patriots 2017 regular season roster. Nope. For us irresponsible media types it’s much more fun to get ahead of the curve and speculate long before the league-mandated cut downs of August and September come about.

As it stands today – New England has 89 players on its roster. Between now and the regular season there will certainly be additions and alterations to the roster. And plenty of guys – from veterans to undrafted rookies – will see their standing with the team change significantly. But that’s for the coming days, weeks and months of work on the practice fields of Gillette Stadium. Right now it’s time for a PFW projection of what will be the 2017 Patriots roster, a group that will attempt to defend a Super Bowl title as the NFL’s unquestioned favorite entering the fall.

Right in the middle of the NFL "dead zone" between mini camps and the opening of training camp. Just thinking about how roster spots will shake out on this very stacked team. This year, the free agent acquisitions appear to be the best I've seen in years. While the starting lineup is pretty much set, there are a lot of battles for reserve slots. Take tight end for example. At TE, Allen is the favorite for the #2 spot with Lengel as his major competition. At move TE, O'Shaugnessy is the leader with UDFA Jacob Hollister as his competition. The free agents have one advantage; the size of their contract. All that Lengel needs to do to beat out Allen is to show that he is equivalent in a talent level to Allen. Ditto Hollister versus O'Shaugnessy. It is much like when Ryan Allen beat out Zoltan Mesko for the punting job. Both players were about equal during the preseason, with some people saying that Mesko slightly outplayed Allen. Allen's lower salary became the "tie breaker". That fact could make these "under the radar" roster battles very interesting.

Most excited I've been in years with the current crop of players. Going to be one hack of a camp.

Camp opens July 26 for the rookies and July 27 for everyone.

Training camp is open to the public. If past camps are any indication, you should get the Patriot Place side of the stadium for free parking and walk down to the main gate no later than 8:30 AM if you want to sit in the bleachers. Bleacher seats are along the sideline of the east side of the field. Or you can sit on the grassy hill behind the end zone under the Gillette Stadium end of the field. Opening day of camp they have had to turn people away once about 12,000 fans show up because there just isn't any space left. They've had security go to the top of the entry to watch for people trying to sneak through. They have professionally done signs that announce that camp is closed to spectators due to overcrowding.

This year, they will have armed security and they may make you open totes, coolers and anything else that they think might be dangerous to others.

Me?? Can't go to opening day of camp this year. I'll be flying to New Orleans, LA for the Disabled American Veterans National Conference. What do you think is more fun, opening day of training camp or 5 days with a bunch of story telling cripples.

Prior to last night's final preseason game against the Giants, there was a lot of discussion about who gets kept and who gets cut.

After the game, former Patriot Matt Chatham, who is a sideline commentator for CSN, made a couple of very interesting comments and observations.

First, 42 Patriots were held out of the game last night to protect against any injuries. No starting offensive or defensive players played special teams either. Chatham openly said that 11 roster spots were up for grabs.

With Cyrus Jones' injury, that left 12 spots. Jacoby Brissett nailed down the 3rd QB spot and that puts the roster back to 11 spots.

Nobody other than Belichick, McDaniels and Patricia will be making the final decisions, but, there are several guys who looked outstanding and may have made the team.

With JE gone, Austin Carr looked very comfortable and didn't do anything wrong. DJ Foster appeared to solidify his place. That leaves 9 spots. Rookie OT McDermott looked horrible on the INT for a TD when he totally missed a cut block and his man Wynn took in the pass for a TD. He came back and played a solid game from that point on and probably will make the roster for that excellent effort after the rookie mistake. That leaves 8 positions. With a great night against the Giants 3s and 4s I think Geno Grissom may have made it. In my head that leaves. That leaves 7 spots. I don't have any idea what BB is thinking so I won't fathom a guess from here.

I expect to see BB making phone calls and trades today for at least 3 spots.
