quote from Marvin about rookies

Bengals-Jaguars Postgame Quotes

On if this is his deepest roster since he has been with the Bengals:
“I believe we have a better group of guys who can make football plays…who understand it. I think they do a great job of seeing the next guy up and the fact guys are getting an opportunity (to play) and going in and doing it, you’ve got to credit our coaches for getting these guys ready to play. They understand they have to be ready to play when they are called on. You look at Orson Charles, you look at Marvin Jones on offense, you look at what (Devon) Still and Brandon Thompson are giving us on defense. You’ve got (Vontaze) Burfict, I could just go on and on. There are a lot of guys who weren’t going to be in the thick of the plan who are out there playing a lot of football.”

For all the criticism Marvin gets for not playing rookies (some well deserved) credit is due on getting the rooks in there this year.

Granted, some is by virtue of injury but they are in there and producing nonetheless. Well...except for that one pick we got in the Carson Palmer trade.

Burfict is the most instinctive LB this team has had since Odell.

The guy simply sniffs out plays and reacts. Maualuga wishes he could carry his jock.

Artrell said the other day he would move Rey back to SAM or WILL and just let him rush the passer and create havoc and move Burfict to the MIKE and let him do what he does: Read. React. Make plays.

put Maualuga on the bench, let the old man rest, maybe he can come in once or twice a game and make a play.

This makes sense to me.....Maualuga would be most useful as a pass rusher because he doesn't have to think, or read.......Burfict has what it takes to be successful in the middle......make the move now.....

Agree with all of you... Burfict could be something really special if he keeps his head on straight and we actually keep him on the field.

Loved that play that Burfict made on the receiver yesterday. It's been a while since we've had a linebacker that was actually an asset in pass coverage.

He should have turned around on that TD pass to the TE, though. He got caught up in the fact that the TE gave him a little bump and shove to create separation. He's got to fight through that and find the ball. At least he was in range. Rey would still be sniffing out the RB on the play-fake.

He's shown restraint too, something he didn't do at ASU. There was a play where Gabbert scrambled and started to slide and Burfict was coming head-on, but pulled up rather than slam into him, drawing a dumb penalty.

he also was pushed by a Jags player and he looked at the ref and lifted his hands as to say... "Hey wasnt me" I like that..... SEIZE THE MOMENT! Also call Ray and build a relationship with him...He needs good mentors...Guys who have made mistakes and overcame it to become a MAN!
