Actually I think it says alot about our free agent plans. We are clearing space when it wasnt actually needed.... unless we have plans to make some serious moves. We were well under the cap before any of these moves. So unless its suspected that we will need more than $17 million that we had without these moves to bring some one in, they werent moves that had to be made. So with $20 million in cap space before any other moves from this point... got to wonder who the hell is on the radar?? I got one of those oh no now what feelings that they are priming up for one of those runs. The kind where FA starts at 4:00 PM and by nine AM we have signed six guys.

Being under the cap doesn't matter. Who cares if we are under the cap already? How can you expect Carriker to even play a snap. Rocca isn't even worth a snap. Cut them now and be done with it.

Also, cap space remaining at the end of the season can carry over to 2015. Maybe we are finally going to plan for the future because I sure as hell hope we don't do the 6 guy signing on day one.

Need to go after O-line gotta have guys that can protect RG3 and it wouldn't look good for Jay Gruden right off the bat not to upgrade and allow our QB to get hurt again

Could be Byrd or Dansby. Or both. Dansby would probably only be a 2 year deal. He's pretty long in the tooth.

RG3 hasn't ever missed a snap because of his OL getting him hurt, unless you count a bad snap.

The interior of our OL is bad but I'm not sure if that is talent or coaching. Their main problem is picking up stunts.

Do we need to upgrade the talent level of the OL? Of course we do but not to the level many of you cry about.

LT Trent Williams is a stud.

LG Kory Lichtensteiger struggled this season after being very efficient the previous season while his backup Josh Leribeus is going to be a better fit (has shown potential) if he shows the effort.

C Will Montgomery was horrible ever since his bad snap that ended RG3's rookie season. I wonder how much of that was mental. RG3's rookie season, Montgomery played like a pro-bowler. JD Walton was an excellent pickup and I think he will be the starter. Honestly, I didn't even realize we picked him up until DAD mentioned it the other day. He was a starter in Denver when Tebow made his run and got hurt 4 games in with Manning. People keep saying we need to move Lich over but Walton is better and has more experience as a center than Lich.

RG- Chester was horrible last year. One of the worst in the league. How much was due to injury? It doesn't matter. He needs to go because he won't fit this scheme and he's overpaid. Gettis will have to step up or we need to look at FA for a starter.

RT- Polumbus is not nearly as bad as a few make him out to be. He's far from great and we could use an upgrade but he's nowhere close to the worst RT in the league.

I'd look at former Bengal players as targets in FA considering where Gruden came from.

1) Anthony Collins (28) could come very cheap and has played well when he started.

2) Michael Johnson- At 6'7" could he add a little weight and move inside on the 3-4?

3) Vincent Rey could be a very cheap option at ILB with good upside. He's only 26 and played well last season as a spot starter and backup. This could be my favorite pickup based on price and upside.

Look, unless they are planning to actually DO something with the cap space, it was an un needed move. And considering we have 4 DE's on roster right now and the fact that holding Carriker hurts nothing as far as this or next years cap until week one of the season... the only reason to make a move like this is to clear space for some big FA push. We would carry the same amount into next year for Cutting Carriker the week before the season started, that we might carry forward for releasing him today. So the only reason to clear space today was if they plan to use that space on some one next week.

Carriker was dead weight. End of story.

I wont disagree. But as I have stated, the move was pointless unless they are making room for some other move. Its not like we have Players who are markedly better on the team. And on the off chance that he could get healthy, Carriker is likely better than atleast two of the DEs we currently have on roster. But I guess we had to make room some place to go on the play maker blitz I expect and many fans are quietly hoping for.

If Carriker can get healthy, he may be back on the cheap...

Cutting Rocca and Carriker says very little about our FA plans.

Carriker played two games at the beginning of 2012. He played ZERO games in 2013. That's almost two full years the guy hasn't played. Cutting him was a no-brainer.
Rocca ranked #30 in punting and his net was dead last (more than 10 yards behind #1). I know statistics don't always tell the whole story but I'll be damned if they don't tell a good chunk of it.

Dude I could care less about Rocca and I knew he was gone. Carriker was likely gone too. But fact remains, the moves right this moment were pointless aside from making a few fans feel better unless they actually needed the space to make other moves. So either they have been reading the message boards and wanted to give a few fans the old we are doing our best chubby, or they are planning to do something that requires more than $14 million in cap space.

Derrick Johnson is 6 mil/season
Daryl Smith is 1.25 mil
AJ Hawk is 5 mil
Daryl Sharpton is under 1 million

Here are a few guys that are comparable to Riley. Another way to look at it. How much was LFB getting paid and until last season, LFB was a lot better than Riley.

Andrew Hawkins could be another one at WR. He's an rfa but I saw today the Bengals placed the compensation for him as whatever round he was drafted in and since he was a udfa he doesn't require any compensation to sign. I'd be ok with bringing him in.

I'd be all for Hawkins coming here. He's what we need in the slot and his speed would be welcomed. I too would do this only if no compensation was involved...or maybe a 7th rounder.
