I don't know if he was sick or if it was some kind of accident, but what I do know is 35 is way too young.

It's with sadness that I just learn the passing of Steve Montador. He was 35 years old. He played 571 games in the NHL.

Steve Montador's death believed to be a suicide. He suffered from concussions and depression. Difficult financial situation too I'd heard.

This is sad. Rest in peace to steve

Knowing he was the only nhl'er to play in france during the 2004 work stoppage won me 2 free rounds of golf at furry creek on sports page trivia

I remember watching him in the AHL in his early 20s, including a Calder Cup victory in 2001. 35 is way too young. Sad news for sure! RIP Steve.

Mirtle, in quite an irresponsible move, made this comment which was contradictory (to this point) to the police report. Really sick of "gotta be first" journalism. Is it an easy assumption to make because of the history? Sure. But, the police have said natural causes at the moment, or at least no assumption of intentional death. It's a very sad situation, but if it were a family member that's a really awful thing to say with no basis. If I had just lost someone close to me, hearing suicide makes it seem that much worse...just wish the media would be considerate of that.

RIP, Steve. So young.

So, nothing at all I've read even hints at suicide. I would love Mirtle to have his ass handed to him if he turns out to be wrong.

Same here. Dude bugs me to begin with, but man it's inconsiderate to spread this. Again, I get that it's an easy assumption to jump to (concussion, depression, history of guys doing it), but when you're a member of the media with a lot of followers, just so rude. You know, assumptions and all.
