I just found out. They mentioned it on the warriors-spurs game just a bit ago.
He was a very good announcer, and had those deep dulcet tones in his voice.
I remember him doing A's & 49ers games.

CSNBA is going to do a special tribute on him later tonight.

An absolute shame. His calls of "And you can tell it goodbye" and "Touchdown, 49ers" will always be etched in my memory.

How? You are from Buffalo and are a Bills fan.

I am so confused...

I just got home. Lon was real special to me. He taught me about the Giants as he called their games when I was growing up in the Bay Area. He was a giant in broadcasting and a member of the HOF. He was humorous , a outstanding technical announcer, along with a real love for the game and for the players. Lon and Willie Mays were real close. Willie was his friend and Lon called a lot of his games telling us stories of the great Mays who roamed CF.

Lon Simmons was not afraid to tell it like it is. He was honest , and a gentlemen of the game. He stirred my imagination which formed my love for the Giants. He was there under my pillow describing the action on my transistor radio when Mom and Dad thought I was sleeping.

He called great 49ers victories and he was there describing all of it to me when I had to mow the lawn on Sunday's. Lon was a respected man..a good man..a man's man.

I considered Lon Simmons my friend and I never met the Man. I have missed him ever since he retired from broadcasting.

A legend.

R.I.P. Lon Simmons

Found out this morning on KNBR. He was one of the best to ever come along. May he rest in peace.
