I'm glad we got rios.... He's hitting close to .280 which is good for an outfielder?

I have 2 questions.....

1) what do you think his role will be? I hope wash doesn't platoon him and take away time from Martin.

2) how does it affect Murphy? If it were me, it seems very simple. Rios everyday in right, Martin everyday in center, platoon Butler and Beltre. Murphy had plenty of chances.... Watching him end 8 out of 18 innings in LA was the last straw for me. I want him gone lol

It's all in the hands of Wash and there is absolutely no telling how his lineups will be written from one day to the next. I feel certain he will pencil Murphy in more often than not. Rios will be in the lineup most everyday and the young guys will be plugged in occasionally

Why would you think Martin is in jeopardy of losing time to Rios? He's our everyday CF, and now is entrenched as our lead off man. Rios wasn't brought here with any intention toward Martin! He is here due to our corner OF situation period.

Your right on Murphy and it hurts to see it happen. He's been very serviceable in LF for years, but has rolled over for dead this entire season! In the previous 3/4 years he's hit about .270 with 70+ RBI. This is more than fine when you have a Hamilton in center and a Cruz in right. But now his .220 average and not delivering in the clutch (RISP) are unacceptable (to everyone but Wash it seems).

Murphy is to Wash what Michael Young was last year, no matter how bad they played they always got game.

This^^^. Anyone who has watched the Rangers the last few years knows Wash is going to stick with what he knows. The interesting thing to me will be where he hits him. I know he is there to replace Cruz' production, but they are different guys, Rios less power but much more speed, which opens up a lot of possibilities

If it reduced Martin's playing time, Wash would be dealing with a fan revolt

it will be Murphy in LF, Martin in CF and Rios in RF probably every night with Beltre and Gentry getting the occasional start

I think Murphy will play a little less now that Rios is here. Yes he'll still play but it won't be the every day in the lineup like it was not to long ago because the OF has other options and decent depth where you can platoon a lot of guys. But I think Rios and Martin will be the staples of playing everyday.

Martin in LF
Gentry & Beltre in CF
Rios in RF

Murphy will most likely play against all rhp. Gentry will get some starts against lhp. Martin better lose zero time to Murphy.

what would you or I do if he did which he won't?

it will be Gentry & Beltre who will see spot starts

There's nothing we can do , but it would be hurting the team and would be pretty hard for wash to justify to JD.

I will get right back on my soap box though.

all JD wants to see is victories, how Wash gets those is left up to him so as long as the team continues to produce JD will not interfere as was apparent last season with Young

Well they didn't get enough victories, and I guarantee JD wants to see the best team on the field and that includes Martin. So you're wrong on both counts.

have you spoke with JD because you seem to believe you know what he wants? understand I want Martin on the field too but it is not Martin that will have his playing time affected by Rios coming in. Martin will see majority of the playing time in center while Gentry and Beltre will see spot starts through out the rest of the season. we are stuck with the fact that Murphy will see a majority of the playing time in left thru the rest of this season and no matter how hard we carp about on this board it isn't going to change.

Martin has solidified his role as the everyday OF'er regardless. I think Rios is essentially replacing Cruz so that leaves the next OF spot to be as platoon as they get. I think Rios will get his share of non starts as well depending on the matchup but however Wash wants to do it will be the way it's going to be. JD wants to see progress and wins as does everyone else in sports.

Ya know, as much complaining as is done here - some from me too - about Wash, it is amazing to me the Rangers have played themselves into a first place tie, to date! It says a lot about the commitment the team has to each other, and to management too! If you would have laid out to me how the off season played out, the injuries incurred, the trade line passing without movement, and Cruz getting suspended, I would have bet $100 we would be at least 6 games back, at least!

IMO I think Wash and Girardi deserve a lot of consideration for manager of the year. Don't know if it will happen but they should definitely be in consideration.

First, I really like your moniker! Second, I agree with ya totally on Martin! Shoot, this guy has played much better than expected, but he may get moved around some to accommodate the arrival of Rios. We'll see.

I keep thinking - silly me perhaps - that Murphy will catch fire like he did in 2011 (it was 11 wasn't it?). But every time he seems to have back-to-back good games, then he has 8 in a row of 0-4, 0-4, 1-4, etc and it's the same old crap!
