He actually makes less than Oreskovich at NHL level, so no (cap) worries bringing him back up after a conditioning stint.
best of luck Ripper.

i guess anythings possible but imo he is done with the canucks ... he's popular with his teammates but I dont think Gillis wants to have a chemistry experiment on his hands at this time of year

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Manitoba Moose have a major surprise on their final roster for the playoffs.

Vancouver Canucks forward Rick Rypien, who has missed most of this season due to personal issues, has been placed on the Moose reserve list and could be eligible to participate in AHL games down the stretch and into the playoffs. Before becoming an NHL regular, Rypien played 105 games for the Moose between 2005 and 2008.

Each AHL team had to declare its 22-man roster by Monday at 2 p.m. CT. The AHL then puts a tight lid over the lists for a day, checking eligibilities. It released the lists this morning.

Manitoba has eight players on its reserve list, including Rypien. Those players can only get into a game when the team has an emergency, which is three or more of its declared players who are recalled, injured or suspended.

yeah, I was wondering about that too (why I specified 'cap' worries)
I'm torn on the subject. On the one hand, he's probably a more effective player than V.O. But I would probably lean towards keeping him on the Moose for their playoffs, see if he has a good summer, and get a fresh start in training camp.

fighting Stortini might be good therapy for Ryp

its like going to the gym and hitting a punching bag over and over again to let out your emotional frustrations

and then the punching bag hugs you after

oh, one more thing, the terminology that has Ryp at the Moose is a 'Conditioning loan'.
I don't know if there are term limits to something like that, and he might HAVE to come up.
Having named him to their playoff roster indicates that he can stay there, but I don't know if there are obscure rules that could come into play.

they explained it on the radio but i wasnt really listening 100% ... he's on the moose reserve list not the clear day roster so there would have to be 3 recalls or injuries to get him in the moose lineup ... if i heard correctly

Barring catastrophic injuries, I see it as nothing but a bad idea for the Canucks to call him up at this point.

He hasn't played since what, early October, right? And given the circumstances of his departure and absence, it seems like it would have the potential to screw with a team that's playing damned well.

so heres the explanation

As Rypien is not on the Moose Clear Day or main roster list, he can only play for the AHL club – in regular season and playoffs -- unless there are emergency conditions due to injuries, player recalls or suspensions – but those circumstance currently apply. Any three of these meet the criteria as the Moose have Nolan Baumgartner, Jason Jaffray and Ryan Parent out with injury, while Chris Tanev and Victor Oreskovich have been recalled by the parent club.

answering my own question:
Rick Rypien ready to resume hockey career; practising with Moose - The White Towel
(was also in jstew's link, but that format seems kind of fucked up)

Rypien’s agent, Alain Roy, confirmed that the player’s conditioning stint has been granted special circumstances by the league, so it is not subject to the usual two-week time frame. It can be extended, subject to agreement by both sides.

also:
Canucks assistant GM Laurence Gilman said Rypien could be a contributing member of any NHL team.
“Rypien is a bona fide NHL player,” said Gilman.

fwiw.

yah i dont know why any of that was necessary if hes just gonna say ... "I dont want to talk about it" ... its personal ... I understand that ... if you dont want to be the guy who steps up and speaks to an issue that can help or give understanding to a segment of society that is struggling, thats ok

but dont parade yourself in front of the media

they might as well have had a big elephant standing right behind Rypien as he was talking to the media

While I'm curious to know what his deal is, I also think he has a right to his privacy. I don't think it's uncalled for to have a press conference to announce his return but not say what his "personal reasons" are. He's not obligated to tell the public everything.
