Guys I need some clarification on something. IFRG3 get s hurt this year his 14 million in 2016 is fully guaranteed? IF he has an average year do we still owe him 14 million in 2016? Or can that be restructured?

Thanks

This article details the scenarios

Redskins mailbag: What Robert Griffin IIIs option means, NFL Draft scenarios and more - The Washington Post

Excerpt

That’s correct that the salary is only guaranteed for injury, but it would not have to be a career-ending injury. It would, however, have to be serious. We’re not talking an ankle sprain. If Griffin has an injury that requires surgery and/or an extensive rehabilitation process, he would have to be able to pass a physical by the start of the 2016 league year, according to two people familiar with the situation. That would be somewhere around March 10. If Griffin isn’t completely healed, and can’t pass a physical by the start of the 2016 league year, then Washington would be on the hook for that $16.155 million salary.

Which is why the team likely won't bring the QB back after this stint with Washington... Man, how much they gave up for this guy is unreal.

Cle was offering more than us. The price didn't matter at that point in time. My point is we are going to pay 16m for an average qb

Keim: Well, I didn't participate in the rankings so this is just guesswork (for which some fans will get angry, no doubt). But bear with me as I try to analyze multiple people's thoughts: My sense would be that they don't think Griffin will be any good whereas the rookies can still be molded and ultimately surpass him (maybe even this season). We haven't seen their flaws in the NFL, so right now it's all about potential. They've seen Griffin's struggles the past two years, have heard plenty about him and have their doubts he'll be a long-term starter even this season.

I can tell you that in the coaches minds, his mechanics haven't regressed as much as they haven't improved. He was not known for great mechanics as a rookie but did make plays and the success of the run game helped tremendously (a big hint for this season). That's why I thought he was headed for a great career; so many areas he could improve -- and if/when they did, wow. I can't compare any 2012 rankings because the rankings started last year. Clearly Griffin would have been much higher -- and ahead of where Marcus Mariota andJameis Winston are right now -- had there been rankings in 2012. I'd personally put rookies in a separate category, but regardless of where someone was ranked, the analysis from the 35 executives and coaches was compelling in regards to every quarterback.

this is hugely damning . mechanics have not regressed but they arent improved either . i hope he has been looking at film

Anything is an improvement from last year. Why would be pay elite money for average production? Health will be a big factor here. Lets hope he blows up this year.

Greatings from China Gents. :)

Dean, as tothe question of why would we pay that kind of money to him if he was only average?? If Average was trending towards getting it, meaning he is viewed at the end of the year as some one who WILL become more than average... you take your lumps and keep him. Because the other option is simply looking for a new QB. And some how I dont think thats a very good option either. Because unless we totally tank, we are not going ot be in the range of getting a premium rookie without again trading up to get him.

Just my take, and I could be dead wrong.

What the hell are you doing in China Shark? I can see your point but its a huge risk. I guess Cousins has no future with this team. That is a shame. Im curious to see what is market value will be next off season.

Job sent me here for a bit, 6 weeks.

As far as the RG3 thing. Unless he sucks, we kind of need to keep him. I dont think Cousins will get a real opportunity unless Griffin gets injured. And us going into the rookie QB lottery next year is counter productive. If Griffin turns out to be average yet solid this season we have to keep him at least through 2016.

Sir, let's remember it is where he was drafted at, number 2 overall. Go look at what top 3 picks made/make in the final year of their rookie contract. On paper, do I agree with Robert Griffin III making THAT much money in one season? No. It's ridiculous, and any fan would tell you that. But understanding, this was the money the Redskins thought he'd be worth, and rightfully so, in the final year of his deal. This isn't the money he's worth now. When Griffin gets his second contract, by whatever team, it will be nowhere near this amount. I'd be stunned if it even gets past 10 million.

Be still my beating heart, Shark and I actually agree.

This is 100% on point. They are not paying $16 million for a guy who will always be average. Should Griffin show improvement they will pay $16 million to retain a guy who they hope will become much more than average moving forward.

As for the market for Kirk Cousins after this season unless things change dramatically I think it has been established that there isn't much of a market. It's no secret that he could have been had in 2 off seasons for about a 3rd and nobody called.
