Well it's that time of the year again. At this point in the season you really hope to snag that high draft pick. I hate to root against the team but i don't mind losing :laugh3: (except for tonight:doh:) but it should hurt less knowing we have #7 as of right now in the Draft. Hopefully we can sustain that or sneak in at # 5 or 6. Brewers, Mets, Giants & Padres all won tonight and that helps us! This season is a wash... If you don't see the positive of losing in September then i'm sorry for you, but right now i hope we keep stacking L's.:gaah: High picks can be busts (see: Dustin Ackley) but still it can't hurt to throw another one onto the pile with D.J. Peterson.

I still think its too early to call Dustin Ackley a bust.
Also check out the others from the 2009 1st round
1st Round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft - Baseball-Reference.com

Only Trout has made a bigger impact as far as hitters go from the 2009 1st round.
In fact Nick Franklin has the 4th most ABs from hitters in the 2009 1st round, although he was a sandwich pick.

Who's in the draft this coming June that will be targeted by the M's. Should they pick more pitching, or are should they concentrate on getting a bat? Someone who is close to MLB ready, or someone with a lot of potential?

I ask because I have never been one to follow the MLB draft, and people's desire to get a higher pick really only becomes relevant if there is someone in the draft that the Mariners would need a higher pick to get.

This is one list I've found, so who likes which prospects. (I'll add some more of what I like about this list once I've done some more research).

2014 MLB draft: Top 50 prospects

I think that kid from Oregon state Michael Conforto. He plays OF and has a ML bat. I think they shoudl target that kid.

I like him too, as a hitter, but it sounds like he is lacking in other aspects of the game and that can be worrisome. I think Seattle should focus on a good hitting outfielder though. I actually think there are some really good high school hitters out there based on what the scouts are saying so it may be worth looking into drafting a prep kid. I think we will have a much better idea of what the top prospects in the draft will look like next year. It is a little early at this point.

Yeah, he isn't fast and projects as a corner OF but his bat is what we need.

I think we need to draft for best overall not need.... Not saying i wouldn't pull my hair out if we picked up another pitcher though. It's too early for me to know who we should be targeting. I'll worry about that in April.

Take the best player available. Not most MLB "ready" or need position. When you don't take the B.P.A you get Jeff Clement, Brandon Morrow, Phillippe Aumont, Josh Fields , or Danny Hultzen

Are you saying draft the player with the highest ceiling? I don't have a problem with that except I think you need to have a balance of both types of players. That being guys who are MLB ready and guys that are high potential higher risk.

It is nice having the 18 year old high school kid that takes 4 years to work his way through the minors (like Nick Franklin) and its nice to have the 22 year old college guy that takes less time (Brad Miller, Zunino).

And don't give up on Hultzen yet. Although I never think he will be worth the #2 pick he was chosen at.

It's a little tiny silver lining to get the draft pick, but draft picks are pretty much always a crap shoot.

I haven't watched a game since 9/7, and I doubt I'll watch any more this year except the season finale. I think a change in management might do some good for next year, but boy, the children need to really get a lot figured out for this team to not lose 90 again.

We need to secure a top 10 pick so we can be protected if we sign a big name free agent. We're sitting at 6 right now. We need to lose tomorrow lol. Mets need to beat the Giants tomorrow. Cubs need to beat the Brewers...and Rockies need to beat the Cards..pff right lol. Either way Giants & Brewers inch closer if the teams we need to win tomorrow come through. Yes it's confusing but I follow this shhh everyday! I at least want us to get #8, and I don't wanna be bumped out of the top 10 on account of the stupid Jays and their 2 picks.

We should be able to easily secure a protected pick. I am ready to put this season behind us and see how we come out of the gates next year

We're so close to keeping 6! If the A's roll over on us like they did years ago this will be like when we missed the top pick and instead got.. Ackley. We could be bumped out of the 10 spot if we sweep the A's or take 2 out of 3. To be safe I hope we lose all 3 games :/ especially "fan appreciation" night. If the A's play sloppy because they have the Al West locked up I'm going to be livid.
