He was a very good catcher for many years, playing in 4 decades. He was Bob Gibson's personal catcher, along with Steve Carleton's. Played well in World Series, winning a couple of rings with the Cardinals.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012 as a broadcaster.
Rest in Peace, Tim. Condolences to family and friends.

"The only thing you know about pitching is that you can't hit it"

RIP Tim. Very solid major leaguer and was the voice of many incredible moments in baseball history. Also holds the record for the most triples in a season by a catcher (13). Also played in four different decades.

He was a great tv announcer and knew his stuff well. I remember his on-the-field play too. Wow, hope he rests in peace. As a Cards fan, another piece of those glory days is gone

I remember him calling out Deion Sanders for falling asleep in the
Atlanta dugout because he played a football game earlier in the day, iirc. Then Sanders sneaks around and dumps a pan of water on him.

RIP

RIP . Part of my childhood. My favorite memory was a Sunday afternoon game where he hit what should have been a grand slam. But he accidentally passed one of the baserunners and it turned into a 3 run single. Classic "never seen that before" moment.

Yeah I remember that. Pretty much a dick move by Deon since he knew McCarver was wearing a rug.
