Im going to say they split the difference and the deal comes in to average $6 million a year which is fair for both sides. Personally i think Riley is actually better than a few of the guys who got paid more, but being on a 3-13 team hurts his value. I will say that of the guys in the $7 million a year range, I would not have paid that for any of them.

I would be ok with 6m. Fair compromise for continuity's sake.

If this is true...what does that equal/year?

HMMMM

That being said, I would have been fine with 6mil/season the way some of these FA are getting paid...It's sheer lunacy.

Its now being reported as a two year deal. So if the $13 number is right, that would make it $6.5 a year. GUess we will know by tomorrow.

3yr 13 mil is very fair for Riley. That is almost have of what he was asking for. Butler got the better deal. Im surprised Riley signed for so little.

I agree, I thought he would get more. I will be interested to see the details of his contract. Hopefully for Riley there are some above average performance incentives, which there should be. All in all, it looks like a GREAT contract for Washington. This FAgency is starting off well.

If it's a 3 year deal, then it's exactly what we thought his value was. That's why you can't go by silly statistics to see the value of a player. The GMs study the film to place a value.

I also thought he would get more. Clearly the rest of the teams didn't value him as much as we did. If he is on board for $4M/year, that is a very good deal for the Skins. Allen is very good at this contract/cap stuff. Hopefully he is just as adept at talent evaluation. Because if the talent he brings in sucks, it makes no difference what we pay them.

There is no way Butler is worth 2 mil more per season than Riley. Something is fishy.

Skinsdad... My whole point is and remains, he is worth more than half what the next guy got. I admit $7 was a stretch. But you pay to keep our own. Im fine if we only gave him $4 million a year. Because we are apparently being cheap with everyone. I would have been more concerned if we kept lowballing our own drafted guys, but came out this morning treating other teams FA's like strippers during fleet week and just started throwing money at them. It was a smart move to keep him. It was stupid to even entertain letting him walk and bring in two FA's at this point in time.

Now if we could only get a safety or two, and another CB, I might think we were on to something.

Here's the thing...we assume we undervalue our own players. Apparently, the whole league undervalued him. There are things in the game, we just don't see and understand. There is a reason we are talking about it on a chat board and others are making money doing this. But I'll be damned if I wasn't close.

what i saw was you overestimated his market value and when people tried to tell you you went on a rant about how we didnt value our guys and we were making a huge mistake

fact is we were very much right
