I didn't expect them to resign Regehr anyways. He was a warrior though, the type of player you don't see a whole lot anymore in the league. I wish him nothing but the best in his life after hockey. Hope he stays involved in the community.
I was pretty confident he would not be coming back, I didn't think the Kings were going to go in that direction. But I also didn't think he was going to retire at 34 either, there are some older guys who are still playing.
But Regehr has a lot of hard miles on him, I will never forget what a beast he was in the 2004 POs with Calgary. I remember watching and he was destroying people left and right protecting Kiprusoff and checking the hell out of people constantly. That takes its toll on a body, and he had a weird year where he had some injuries that didn't look like they'd be serious but ended up costing him some significant time.
While I don't think he was as an important a piece of the puzzle some other guys were for the 2014 Cup, he filled a role and did it the best he could. His true worth is in the locker room and through experience.
Best of luck, spend time with the family, glad he finally got a Cup. Well earned and a well respected player around the league.
I think this is a great opportunity actually to resign Sekera and I think he will be. McNabb played OK at times, not too great in others, but I wouldn't be willing to give him a full time slot just yet.
I think eventually he will turn into a good SAH defender (which is weird to say considering he got almost 25 points this season. WTF??) but he is wet behind the ears. The Kings are still in win now mode even missing the POs, and I think signing Sekera as a veteran T4 and then giving McNabb limited minutes in a protected environment to develop his game is the way to go with him.
