says that if DeCastro is available, the Bengals would pass on him for Floyd for sure.

I'd pass on DeCastro for Floyd. If they like him that much they could take Floyd at 17 and dangle a mid round pick or two to move up a couple spots. If DeCastro is gone by 21 Cordy Glenn would be a nice consolation.

After seeing Marvin McNutt and his numbers, I am sold on going straight after DeCastro and take our chances on landing McNutt in round 3.

Reedy reiterated today that the Bengals will pass on DeCastro and guard is not a priority in this draft.

Of course we're not interested in DeCastro. Since Mike Brown has been in charge of the Bengals, here is how the first round picks break down.

3 quarterbacks
3 outside linebackers
4 defensive ends
1 tight end
3 offensive tackles
2 wide receivers
1 defensive tackle
2 cornerbacks
2 running backs

We don't draft interior linemen in the first round -- That's not too unusual as many teams don't invest in interior linemen, but the Bengals take it to new level. Mike Brown likes flashy positions and doesn't value the idea of building a team from the inside out.

While I don't disagree with the premise of your post, to be fair, we've had so many high 1st round picks, the opportunity - at least relative to almost every other team - hasn't come around often to be in a position to select an interior lineman in the first round.

If you include 2nd and third round picks (since 1991), that would net you two more interior offensive linemen (one of them being Steinbach who we let walk after his rookie deal) and no more defensive tackles.

I think that is a fair point to make. In the last 20 years, the Bengals more often than not have not been in position to seriously consider taking a Guard.

I advocate for DeCastro because with him in at RG (everyone talks about the G's they sign, but they are both traditionally LG's and the second guy they signed is more depth in my opinion than starter material) they can help upgrade two areas of the offense: The run game AND the passing game.

WR is a very deep group this year. I really feel the Bengals can wait on a WR (now, if Floyd is there I still think they can wait, but I don't think they will) and need to focus more on a CB for next year (having this year to sit and learn and be placed in easier situaions/special teams and be ready next year).

I also feel that with the way RB's are used anymore, they could also wait on a RB until next years' draft. With BJGE, BS, BL, and CP....I don't see them taking a rookie back and cutting any of those guys to make room for another RB.

I agree with all that. I would take DeCastro over Floyd. They can afford to wait on WR and RB.

That was the player he specifically mentioned. He said if Floyd is there, they will take him. He was then specifically asked about Guard, and he said they will not draft a G early, because they have Gs already on the roster.

Exactly. I'd much rather have DeCastro in the 1st and grab someone like Sanu or Jeffery in the 2nd, or another guy in the 3rd, then use another 1st rounder on WR. You have to play to the draft. WR is the deepest position and can be addressed later. Mike Brown always looks to address skill and glamor positions first. Am I the only one who thinks that Michael Floyd is a tad overrated?

LOL every team has G's on there roster. Doesn't mean any of them can play. I hate the fact management thinks because we signed a couple of spare interior lineman than it isn't still a need.

That was my exact reaction. I said passing on DeCastro because of Hudson, Boling, and Bell would be like passing on Green last year because we had Simpson, Caldwell, Shipley, etc.

JMO, but to me DeCastro looks like one of those guys you plug in at a guard position and you don't worry about that position for 12 years, a guy who's going to go to multiple pro bowls.......if he should fall to us and we pass, I'd be very angry with MB again (but not surprised)......also, this looks like a receiver rich draft in the second and third rounds, and surely we could get one of those guys......

Our organizational confidence in developing our "home-grown" guys has always been a downfall. It's no secret we don't have the coaching to develop any of them, and most of them just plain suck. The only time we succeed in the draft is when a no-brainer falls in our laps (Green)

DeCastro is Alan Faneca/Steve Hutchinson 2.0, an instant pro-bowler. But who wants that right? Certainly not the "smash mouth AFC North" Bengals. More than likely our two 1st rounders will be a WR, and the kid without a position from Alabama.
