The issue with our drafts has been that we haven't successfully built depth with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounders. How many 3rd rounders have we missed on? We were given a lot of credit in drafts because we drafted big names from the college world that just didn't pan out (Rey M., Jordan Shipley, Chase Coffman, Carlos Dunlap). We're getting very little depth out of most of these drafts.
Every team misses, though. I'd also say that Dunlap was an excellent pick. lets not forget that he set the rookie sack record while only playing in maybe 2/3 of the games...the guy is a very legit talent and is the kind of potentially dominant pass rusher that the Bengals havent had since who knows when. I think Shipley was going to be a very good pro. He was also very productive as a rook (I think he also set rookie records). Of course, he was injured...but you can't blame the Bengals for that. It's just bad luck. Doesnt make it a bad pick. Rey is terrible and Coffman is a never was..but those guys were also picked before 2010 (which to me seemed to be a turing point for the Bengals in terms of drafting). So over the past three drafts...I'm happy.
