Well, I guess we can look forward to Sabean re-signing Michael Morse for three years and 10M per season

Boston Red Sox add Cuban OF Rusney Castillo - ESPN Boston

So 7-year/72.5M deal

Nothing on who was the runner up or what SF offered.

If this was like the Jose Abreu thing from the offseason, Sabes might have offered same amount of average money but for less years

7 years is a long time, but kid is only 23, right? 10M per for a star is a bargain. 10M for a starter is a bargain. 10M for a util player is an overpay (at today's prices). 10M for a bust hurts, but is not crippling (for the top 10 teams or so).

Good signing by the BoSox.

Allegedly.

Sad we whiffed on him, we could use the help.

Although, Belt on CSN said he hopes to be back in 2-3 weeks, isn't done for year

Still not sure why Scoots allowed Whiteside to borrow his uni for between-inning warmups that day...

WHITESIDES FAULT!!

On the Belt situation...

How fucked up is it that Scoots is on the roster for all of about 10 days and his main contribution is potentially ending Brandon Belts season?

I cannot think of a worse contribution any player has ever had for any team in the history of sports...

"Here is $6,000,000. Now go throw the ball at our #3 hitters face when he isn't looking, then go away."

Of course, he contributed plenty in 2012. Let's call Scutaro's 2014 the worse YEAR's contribution in baseball history.

Sorry, that's what I meant. 2014 only. 2012 will live in the history of Giants lore.

And yet we are still in the hunt.

And let's be thankful that at least he didn't go to a competitor.

That is a real hole in Sabean's game (signing guys to long-ish contracts for SSS heroics). Sanchez; Scutaro; Huff; to a lessor extent, Timmeh.

I realize that it would not have been perfect for the org to let these guys walk after their heroics, but they were able to do it with Ross. I also realize that each of these guys filled positions of need for the team (while Ross did not really fill a dire need after getting Melky) at the time while there were not any clear alternatives on the FA market or from within.

But DAYUM, Sabes. Sometimes it is OK to lose a battle in order to win the war. Let us fringers act like jackasses for 6 months because you let someone walk instead of letting us act like jackasses for 6 years because you signed a broken 2B for 3/18.

He was a nobody before he took the calculated gamble. He lost out on a good situation in SF, but the gamble still paid off for him. He made 16M in 2 years.

I will take those drugs if it means I can get 16M over 2 years...

Don't hate the player, hate the game

He's hitting 314/367/477 with an OPS+ of 133 for the Jays this year. I'd take that.
